Thoroughly enjoyed my visit here with my wife and kids (8 and 12). I have been a lot of horse farms around the Lexington area and while they are great, old friends is beyond that with their love for these retired Champions and what they are doing to create a great environment for them.. We found our guides Charlie and his Tuesday Thursday wife Ellen to be very knowledgeable and patient with the guests. Our kids enjoyed being able to see the horses close up and even feed some carrots especially Little Silver Charm and Silver Charm.

We were visiting Lexington and wanted to experience something with horses. But we aren't into horse racing so we didn't want to spend a lot of money on a race track tour. This place is the answer! It wasn't very expensive but worth every penny. Our tour guide was wonderful and her stories and knowledge of each horse was just amazing. Like I said, we aren't big horse people but we loved this tour. What Old Friends is doing for these horses is just heart warming. The tour was about an hour and it was a lot of walking. You also get to feed carrots to each horse. You need to do this tour or at least check them out online. Awesome awesome awesome!!

We heard about Old Friends and decided to take time for a visit. Old Friends far exceeded our expectations. The farm is well maintained and lovely setting for some of horse racings biggest stars. Our guide was knowledgeable about all the horses we visited and their racing careers. Being able to pet horses like Silver Charm was a treat, but even better is the mission of the farm. Old Friends provides a home for retired race horses that might otherwise have no place to go. Cannot give this place enough accolades for the work they do.

Up close and personal visit w some of the greatest thoroughbreds in the world.
For a mere $10 I had the most fulfilling, hands on, and educational morning at one of the most beautiful horse farms in Kentucky.
Dozens of retired and very pampered celebrity stallions calmly ate carrots from my hand while the guide shared interesting history and statistics on each horse. It might be the greatest day in any horse lovers life.
Silver Charm, War Emblem, Touch Gold ....if I wanted to be a name dropper.
Do NOT miss this rare opportunity, you will never forget it. (And try to schedule a 10am tour on a Sat or Sun w Jane -- a lively, entertaining, knowledable guide who you will enjoy as much as the horses. )
This is as good as it gets for any horse enthusiast.

Old Friends is a must-visit destination for native Kentuckians and visitors alike.

I had been wanting to visit the farm for months, and finally made the trek with several friends this past weekend. Tours run daily throughout the year and cost $10/person for anyone over the age of 12 (free for those 12 and under). There are several tours daily in warmer months, and one daily at 11 AM in cooler months.

We arrived around 10:40 and were immediately greeted by Buddy, the fluffy white and caramel colored cat who welcomes all visitors. There are several other cats around the gift shop, all of whom are very comfortable with humans.

Our tour guide was friendly, energetic, and knowledgeable about horses, the thoroughbred industry, and the champions who live at the farm. We walked from one enclosure to the next and got to feed carrots to most of the horses as well as pat some of them. I was amazed at how each horse's individual personality was evident as we interacted with them, with some being more energetic, some obviously wanting one last carrot before we moved on, and others happy to trot up to say just a brief hello to us.

The experience is more than worth the $10 entry fee, and it's a different and relaxing way to spend a weekend day. I'll be planning a return visit soon and hope that a trip out there is on your agenda as well!
