My husband and I visited for the first time while traveling back from Lexington, KY to Alabama. I had read a little about the Falls and they are truly amazing. There is an easy walk down to the falls from the parking lot. There is also a nice souvenir shop at the falls if you want to get something to remind you of your visit. The shop has a wide selection of items. The Dupont Lodge is also located in the park. We did not stay in the lodge but it is quite lovely, We ate lunch at the restaurant and it was quite good. You can order from the menu or eat from the soup and salad bar. We chose the soup/salad bar and it was very good. This is a lovely state park and would love to return and spend more time here.

Spacious parking lot (have never seen it full). Grab your water bottles & head to the falls area. The views are absolutely breathtaking, especially when the colors are changing.
Walking paths are well-kept & roomy, restrooms are clean & plentiful, & there's even a souvenir shop.
If you have friends or relatives visiting, it's a great place to spend the afternoon.

Lets get this out of the way: the "Niagara of the South" slogan is idiotic. Worse, it insults this fabulous natural wonder by comparing it to something it can never, ever be.
What you'll find here: Unmatched serenity. Awesome power. Viewing platforms from different angles, most accessible by wheelchair, along paths that are works of beauty themselves. Well maintained, historic, CCC handiwork that is amazingly serving it's purpose closing in on a century of constant use. Views that it's impossible to take a bad picture of, no matter your skill level. Try it, you'll see! Oh, yeah-- moonbow, too. All this for free admission! All pictures my own.

The granddaddy of KY falls has to be Cumberland. The roar, the power and the incredible amount of wood and debris are testament to the how BIG and mighty this place is. No wonder why the Government wanted it after this location was privately owned a century ago. TIP: Only 10 miles away is Yahoo Falls. A smaller stream falls with an incredible vertical drop that one can walk right up to. It's BIG vs Little and the fact the both falls are so close make this area a great visit if you love short nature walks, waterfalls and the great state of Kentucky.

Overall – This is well worth a visit. You can spend anywhere from a half day to several days here.
Hint #1 – It seems impossible to get a trail map ahead of time, but you can get one at the gift shop for just a buck.
Hint #2 – Check with the staff to find out about the trail difficulties. We were going to go on one trail, but after hearing a first-hand description, we realized it was too difficult for us. It didn’t seem like the trail maps accurately describe the trail difficulty.
Hint #3 – Pack a lunch and consider a BBQ. There are quite a few grills in the area and a very nice pavilion on the road that runs along the river.
Trails – There are quite a few trails with varying lengths and difficulties. The short ones near the gift shop are paved or very smooth and as you get further away they are more likely to be dirt paths. It is really hard to get lost.
Falls – The falls were pretty impressive. You don’t see falls this large in the area.
Hint #4 – If you like taking photos, there are many good locations to shoot from. The falls are close to the parking lot, so if you don’t want to lug your camera on the trails, it is a short walk back to the car.
Our experience – we were there on a weekday afternoon in late September. There crowds were very small. Once we left the main area round the falls, we rarely ran across other hikers on the trails.
The facilities were very good. The bathrooms were large, flush and had A/C. There is a small snack bar, a decent sized gift shop and a visitors center that never seemed to be staffed.
