Please be aware that the brochure and website photos are not what you will receive.

La Pointe a David is located on a really indredible spit of land, and could be so much more. All of the buildings are crammed into a very small space, which makes for peace and quiet, especially on the weekends, very challenging. Don't let the website fool you, you are stacked on top of each other. They are maximizing every square foot of space.

The lovely sand beaches you see on the website is not quiet as nice as it is made out ot be. Very rocky, playground type sand, not vast flat stretches as displayed. Also if you want a chair it will cost you $5 a day.

The cottages are very "rustic". TV only gets fours chanels (three French). No couch or chairs, just a kitchen table with hard wooden chairs. Tough for a family to relax. The jacuzzi tub was extremely small, and in poor dirty condition. Bedrooms are very small, and the beds are extremely uncomfortable. WIFI is not free.

The views, and sunsets are fantastic. The resevoir is clean and relatively warm considring where you are. Le Fritou (restaurant) was good typical fried bar/diner style food. Chicken was excellent. Very similar to KFC. The owners have a real jewel here, but in a effort to squeeze as much as they could out of it, and make as much money as they could, have made it unpleasant and a little run down in places.

We stayed here 2 nights at the end of our week-long snowmobile tour at the end of February. The proprietors and staff provided wonderful service, and went behind the call of duty in terms of the help they provided to us related to one of our party who had been injured in a trail accident and needed hospitalization in Mont Laurier.

The cuisine was outstanding, the rooms were very nice, and clean, and the location is on a beautiful point on the Baskatong Reservoir, easily accessible right off the trail. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a great stop while snowmobiling in the northern Laurentians. It will certainly be on our itinerary the next time we sled through that area.

Room tip: If you have a lot of stuff to haul in from your sled or car, try for a first floor room, as there is no elevator.
