Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga is found at three cities in India. All the three put together are considered as one. They are scattered at different parts of the country. The one at Parli, near Nanded, in Maharashtra is famous among the three. [Nanded is famous for several very important Gurudwaras and major pilgrimage place for the Sikhs].
The second one is at Deoghar in Jharkhand state and the third one is at Santa Paraganas region in Jharkhand state. It is believed that having darshan of one of the three lingas will fetch the punya of visiting all the three lingas.
I had the fortune of visiting the Shrine at Parli city in Maharashtra. The devotees can touch and perform abhisekam and pooja [personally. It gives the devotees a divine bliss and many have felt the vibration while doing the pooja here.
According to a legendary story of the place is that on Yogeswari was married to Lord Shiva, here He is called by name Vaidyanath. The marriage party reached the place after the auspicious time of marriage as such all of them were turned down as stone statues. The other story is that when Ravana went to Kailas and did severe penance to please the Lord as a result he had to suffer from cold, heat, rains etc. Ravana was treated by Lord Shiva by administering medicine made out of herbs. Ravana was cured of his illness. Thus Lord Shiva came to be called as Vaidyanth (Divine Doctor) . It is said the herbs and plants grown here have very useful medicinal value in Ayurveda system.
The temple is a stone structure. You can see attractive and huge deep stamba (pillar). The local guide said that the Ghat (stair case) to enter the temple was built in 1108 AD. The sanctum sanctorum of the temples will be deep. But here the courtroom itself is treated as garbagriha. The priest said that the Shivalinga was made of Saligram, and that the temple was renovated (very recently) in 1706 by Shiva devotees. According to Veerashaiva lingayats (a sect who worship Lord Shiva alone) this is the best Shivalinga temple. There are several other stories about the place (sthal puran).
There is special status for Maharashtra as to the Jyothirlingas are concerned, because there are five out of twelve Jyothirlingas in this state alone. They are They are Aunda Nagnath, Parli Vaidyanath,
Bhima Shankar, Trayambakeswar and Grishnewar.
One must be really lucky to make use of this god given opportunity to have darshan of not only these Jyotirlingas but also other religious and tourist places like Pandarapur, Tuljapur etc in Maharashtra.
One of the Jyotirlingas and its never crowded. Best experience quiet place and I could do abhishek and touch the linga and none of the poojaris where forcing to do any pooja or wanting money. Nice people and I could pray without any push and pull.
It is here that Lord Vishnu successfully helped the Devas to obtain Amrit. Therefore, this place is also known as ‘Vaijayanti”. Recently in the serial devon ke dev Mahadev the story of Parli Vaijnath was shown and I was extremely excited to go to this holy temple. There are many who says we can experience Lord shiva and Devi Paravti there, I had gone with my husband and feel totally blessed by both the lords :)
I am native of Parli Vaijnath, it is the best place in the world to live.
I will suggest, if possible, try to stay atleast 15 days and you will realise that Lord Mahadeva lives here along with Devi Parvati.
It is not crowed, all needed facilities are available here and these are not too far.
Lord Mahadeva temple is surrounded by various temples, you might want to visit those as well.
There are Tirthas as well here.
It is heaven, unless you believe !

Not many trains to this station. Take bus to Parbhani 1.45 hrs away. Many trains from here. We keep visiting Parli Vaijanath Temple as it is close to Latur where I am transferred. When relatives come to visit we go there. One should avoid going to the temple especially on Monday's.
The importance is that every one is allowed to touch the Shiva Linga as it is believed that by the touch the devotee is cured of all illness. One can also do a full pradakshina to the temple as along with the the Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu is also there. Preferably one should go through a known Pujari of the temple.
Laghurudra is also performed there if you have a known Pujari who arranges for everything including the 11 Brahmins required for the Pooja & their Brahmin Bhojan after the Pooja.
About two Km from there there is a Bhavani Mata Temple. In the basement of this temple Saint Sankaracharya is believed to be in hiding with the Vedas. Only one person can barely pass through the gate which leads to a very small room where one can barely stand.
