We booked this motel for an overnight stop on our way to a reunion in Kansas. It was so charming, we stayed there again on our return trip. What we liked most about the Evergreen Inn was sleeping in an immaculate updated room with the windows wide open. We turned off the air conditioner and enjoyed the wonderful cross breeze and the sounds of “small town” Iowa. Another plus for this destination was its walking location from the center of town. We discovered live music in the Town Square, the Iron Horse Grill – a local favorite, and three historic mansions from the 1800’s (two on the Historic Register). From our front window we looked across the street to a magnificent mansion. From the back window we were treated with a neighbor’s beautiful garden. Much better view than most hotels double or triple the cost. If you don’t need a swimming pool, an inside entrance, and noisy kids in the hallways, you might want to consider this “step back in time” motel.

We almost missed this little gem due to the low cost of the room! After reading its reviews, we decided to chance it and we were glad we did. The tidy outside appearance, the friendly owners, and a clean room all welcomed us. Every thing was clean from the shower tiles to the microwave/refrig area to the bed. Lots of hot water and good water pressure washed away a long day on the road. The a/c was good as well as the queen bed. As a woman, I would feel secure in this motel if I were traveling alone.
The room isn't huge but we found it to be perfect for the two of us. We pass thru here two or three times a year and we plan to make the Evergreen Inn a regular overnight stay.

This mom & pop is worth staying in, they let you select your room ours was completely renovated & thoroughly modern,new tile in bath. The only downside was a lack of a accessible ice machine you have to ask. They offered a coffee pot & mugs &fixings necessary to enjoy a morning brew.
