“Not Too Bad and they Seem to be Trying”
Reviewed 1 August 2011

Looks like the East Indian family living on-site is running this place. The guy who checked me in was friendly enough. My room was very small, but cheap and clean. The bed was hard, but I slept well enough. The continental breakfast wasn't very extravagant, but about what you'd expect from a Days Inn. It seems like they're trying hard to do the best they can with what they've got. Overall a rather unremarkable stay.

I checked in around 9 p.m., had reserved a non-smoking room, but only smoking was still available. And it was so smoky that the white plastic on the smoke alarm was shades of tan and yellow.

The check-in guy didn't care, didn't even want to bother checking me in. But he was quick to get back to the lobby computer. He finally gave me a can of rose scented air spray. I returned the empty can the next moening and the room still smelled of smoke after my having breakfast and cleaning out my car.

OK breakfast. Nice furniture. Great for smokers.

The owners are the trouble or the care takers, loud family up one night till midnight, kids in the hall running around and very loud people. Phone system is weak, can't hear very good in it and they did not know how to set so I could call out to an 800 number, kept getting an adult line... NOT NICE!! and the morning breakfast lady was a grump....

Growing up in Mason City, this was a Thrithy Scot hotel. I didn't want to spend a lot of money for one night in Mason City so I picked the Days Inn. Not the worst decision I've ever made. I wasn't real thrilled when I walked in and smelled Middle Eastern food that was being prepared on premises, it ususally lingers a long time, thankfully I was on the 2nd floor. The front help was bland and did her job, but wasn't too friendly or seem thrilled to be there. The room was clean and well kept with everything in place...no plumbing problems and plenty of water pressure. Was going to use the computer in the front lobbyin the evening, but the hotel's family was using it and it was family time for them to invade the lobby, not real professional. Had breakfast at about 9 and everything was picked over and as others have stated, nothing was replenished. Ok, I spent 53 dollars, the room was very clean, quiet and everything worked great. It did the job...would I stay here again...50/50.

We stayed at this property twice in late March/early April due to a family illness, with the first visit visit mainly due to this being the only hotel in M.C. that accepts pets. Some remodeling has taken place in the last couple years since our last stay. Their standard rooms are very small, so we have elected to pay a little extra for one the more comfortable larger room with a king-size bed. Generally, the place appears clean but the caulk was peeling off the shower during our first stay; ironically our second stay we were assigned the same room and that had not been repaired. The Breakfast offerings were marginal and not replenished, so try to access it earlier. Was somewhat mystified shy they did not use insulated containers to keep the milk and juice cold. I

If you have a pet this motel is OK, but otherwise consider other options if the price is competitive.
