We dined at Caroline's on Thanksgiving and enjoyed a selection of well prepared and seasoned food. Presentation was great.

We were in Galena Ill for the holiday weekend and could not find anything but McDonald's open on Thanksgiving in Galena, so we tried driving over to Dubuque and drove all over until we noticed all of the cars in the Hotel parking lot and noticed others sitting at the dining tables. Very nice little place. The hostess/manager told us there was one table for two we could take but it was reserved within an hour of our getting there, as they were only taking the reservations made-she made an exception since we told her we had no where else to dine. She sat us and the ambiance was nice, many people there and service good-although waitress was not in the mood to carry on small talk at all-which having both been servers, we found distasteful on a holiday too and she was not that busy where she couldn't spend a few moments like the other servers were. It was a holiday small menu where you pick from two starters and three main items and a dessert. No drink provided, and no prices on the menu, so we knew it would be a big surprise-but no where else to go, so we had the prime rib dinner with a salad and the traditional turkey meal (which was a small serving when brought out-wow) with a soup. This was the most expensive lunch we ever had ($65.00) for two with one drink. So, we boxed up half and brought for dinner. It was good and nice to experience overall. But, with those prices we could not afford to dine here again.
They were very nice here though in getting us in and feeding us.

We arrived just before 9:00 pm for a late dinner after checking in to the hotel. My Prime Rib was very good, one of the other members of my party said theirs was cold to the touch when it arrived at the table and asked to have it heated up...

The soup of the day was gone... a couple other minor side choices were no longer available... these things happen when you have a late dinner!

Wine selection was nice, service by Rob was top notch.

I would definitely go back!

My daughter and I stayed at the hotel for 4 days. On a Saturday night we ate here for dinner. The food was very good and the atmosphere and service was impeccable. The next morning however I ordered room service breakfast. After waiting 45 minutes I called down and they brought me cold food that had been sitting there. The orange juice tasted weird and the toast was black. We barely ate anything from the expensive meal that we had ordered.

Caroline's is located in the historic Hotel Julien Hotel. It has a wonderful menu that changes with the seasons, but one of their staples is their Spicy White Bean Chicken Chili. It is one of my FAVORITES and has the perfect blend of spice and flavor without be overpowering. A must try!!
