We visited this during our recent trip to Shipshewana and was very impressed. We learned a lot about the Amish and Mennonite communities. The entrance fee was only $7 per person and the tour took about 1.5 hours. Several rooms of displays featuring tour guides, multimedia displays, as well as static displays would highly recommended this place to anyone visiting the area.

Always passed this by when going to flea market. Now THIS place IS what Amish land is about! You can learn so much re Mennonites, amish and hutterites (latter I never heard of), all of these part of Ana Baptist group. You can learn difference and all about their ways and belief. Allow 2-3 hours! Guide greets you upon entering, very friendly and sets you up to view movie intro. It's $7 to get in and worth it!! When done, you get escorted to other room, then repeated twice, then you are on your own to browse, read, etc. At end are two rooms to go in (one is tornado room, simulated tornado action). Wish original guide available at end for questions. Very realistic, well done, and clean. Amazing part is that large barn that houses this museum was constructed over 35 years ago in FIVE days by amish volunteers. Unbelievable!!! Make sure you look at joists in ceiling. Take break from shopping and see what Shipshewana and middlebury rally like!!!

Very educational and interesting. Guides will answer any questions and are so friendly. There are movies to tell the story of the Anabaptists' beginning in Europe and how and why they came to the US. Exhibits show how they live.

Now I know the difference in lifestyle and dress of Mennonite and Amish.

Well worth the money and time.

This is a learning experience that will take about 1 1/2 hours or more, and it is difficult to leave in the middle. You will learn about the AnaBaptist roots of the Amish, Hutterite and Mennonite traditions and better understand what you see in the area. The displays are more than just things to read - they dramatize events and life. Some parts are led by tour guides. Be prepared for just a little religious discussion, but nothing is pushed. Very interesting to learn about the Mennonite Disaster Relief efforts.
