We’d heard a lot about the Oakdale Dam Inn but never visited before. So my wife & I visited Saturday (6/8) around 6 p.m. It’s a bit off the beaten path, but very easy to find—nestled up against the Oakdale Dam (what a great view from their lot & building; plus you can hear the ROAR of the water!).
It was nicely busy, but not packed to the gills. The rustic exterior was cool looking. We sat in the sunny, enclosed side dining room (lots of wood accents), overlooking the dam’s spillway. The rushing waters, boats down river, along with a pleasant evening sun made for a great atmosphere.
We started our meal with onion rings; good, but not great. My wife had the 12 oz. ribeye. It was cooked perfectly with good flavor. She chose the seasoned criss-cross fries; & they were very good (think Arby’s curly fry flavor). I had the boneless catfish nuggets. Excellent taste, texture & portion. I chose regular fries, & they were, well, regular fries.
The service was excellent from start to finish. Our server was knowledgeable & very helpful. The cost of our meal was reasonable as was the quality we received. Good value.
If you bring smaller kids, make sure to bring your camera/phone so you can go outside & get their pictures in the enclosed play area/dam overlook. A vintage car with a ship’s steering wheel & some small boats will give them something to sit in & play.
We’ll be returning to the Oakdale Dam again for sure.
