Used as stopover on our way from the Algarve to Santander.
The hotel was easy to find and looked very smart but was somewhat lacking in atmosphere.
The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed.
Very spacious bar and reception area. Wi-Fi good .
Restaurant was comfortable with a very good value buffet dinner at €15 although the male waiter had undergone some sort of personality bypass.
The buffet breakfast was plentiful and tasty.
Overall a good stopover hotel.

This is a great hotel, very confortable and practically new.

Not near any big cosmopolitan city, it's close to alot of historical villages and near Serra da estrela ( in winter you'll get snow).

You must visit the surrounding castles and historial villages like Sortelha and Monsanto.

The hotel has WiFi for free, a great breakfast and a fantastic pool and spa, which is not free.

Away from big cities, its no e Palace to relax.

We spent the night in this hotel in a +spa package. Given the low occupancy rate (due to the winter season and location - not located in any major route) we were basically the only guests around, which was strange at first but didn't cause major issues. The room was very big, modern looking, the bed quite comfy. The spa part was pretty good, and since we basically had all the facilities to ourselves, we made good use of them. Dinner was included and quite tasty, and breakfast was adequate. As we stop by the area often, we would consider returning.

If you want to stay in Penamacor - and a nice little place it is - then you have no other choice, as this is the only hotel. It is new and clean, with grounds and plenty of accommodation, the sort of place where you may often have wedding receptions at weekends. Otherwise you will find a room easily, and at a very reasonable price. Importantly, you will get a good night's sleep and a perfectly adequate breakfast in the morning. The service was good. The town itself is two minutes' drive or a stiff ten-minute walk - or rather climb. In general this is a good hotel. I would not quite rate it as very good, but rather a three-and-a-half star category. It's certainly more than just average.

Rather disappointed, on the website it looks excellent, on arrival grand gates take you down a sweeping drive to what looks like a modern day castle. Then reallity strikes, it is gloomy inside, if they are trying to save money by keeping the lights off they must be succeeding. The bar area where we sat after our bland meal ( at least the wine was good), was so dark who knew what was lurking in the corners great setting for a scary movie. So just the one drink thank you very much, then off down the corridors illuminated by lights operated by motion sensor, but hey guys look at the timing no use the light coming on after you have passed, might be better if the lights came on as you approached them. Or are you hiding something. The bathroom had one light off on the mirror so shaving was a bit of a gamble. The bathroom also had a very strange aroma ( no it wasnt down to me) that might explain why every plug socket in the hotel had an airfreshner plugged in i now hate the smell of Vanilla essence! Any way the room had a large balcony so at least we could go outside and enjoy the warm evening air, ahh bit of a problem really large balcony but no chairs no table. So off to bed at least that was comfortable. Woke up refreshed looking forward to breakfast, surprise surprise we had not just a continental breakfast we had hot scrambled eggs and bacon, now for a slim guy like me thats just what you want to start your day off, one slight problem here guys, you are supposed to heat up the hot option. It was completely cold, the heater under the container had not been switched on. Ah well at least the fruit was fresh. Well a 4 star hotel, in my humble opinion I think not. There are a few points not noted on the review, I can leave that for the next time, apart from there won't be a next time unfortunately, a Hotel with so much to offer what a shame its so badly run.

Room tip: Ask to look around before you check in
