This restaurant is in a beautiful location and we’ve passed by many times We booked on line for Sunday lunch and were absolutely delighted. The staff were welcoming and very obliging despite there being only two that we could see. The dining room is pleasant, relaxed and stylish. The food was absolutely excellent, plentiful, fresh and hot. We chose traditional Sunday lunch and loved it. Desserts too are imaginative and delicious. You can also opt for a smaller dessert dish.

Overnight stay. Spacious and comfy accommodation in a converted mews. Beds a bit soft for us. Breakfast beautifully cooked. Staff friendly and helpful.

Is there a pub in the country that doesn’t claim locally sourced produce? A passport to being just boring? Struggle through the 'pub classics' - burgers, a steak, and fish and chips - and there isn’t much to get excited about. I cook better at home. But it is a nice pub, friendly happy service. So don’t let me put you off, but only three stars.

Arrived on time but was caught off-guard as nowhere to park! When carpark is full, there is literally nowhere to park on the busy, narrow road...
Service was adequate, but room for improvement.
The food was good, and the kitchen clearly know what they're doing.
Had foccacia for a shared starter, which could have been better & I suspect it was 'bought in'.( Lacked flavour).
Chicken milanese was very good.
The steak sandwich was reasonable, but horseradish was a tad over the top in sharpness!!
Spring green vegetables were ordered as a side accompaniment but regrettably never arrived( still charged for it on the bill, however!) To sum..... Great company, nice food, reasonably service, nice countryside location in Dorsetshire :) 25% Butcombe discount was a +. Would I go again? Maybe!

Had a wonderful time down the King John for an evening meal with my partner and mother. Was welcomed with a lovely smile and happy atmosphere; taken to our table and there was variety of selection for food. And ended up having a burger which was juicy and full of flavour, the chips were crispy. Was selection of drinks, and amazing cocktails aswell. Would definitely recommend for food and drinks with a good atmosphere that can be enjoyed by all.
