It's because we have any rather large party. This place easily hosts multiple large parties very comfortably. We had great service to and we had only one server and there were at least twenty of us. He was very very attentive and was really good. The pizza is about average but the relish tray dishes are excellent. We had a family style dinner with pizza and those hors d'oeuvres / relish tray. It was about 1295 per person and was well worth it.

I arrived for dinner on a Friday night with friends and, as soon as we entered the restaurant, we were immediately struck by the cozy atmosphere complete with a talented man playing Frankie Valli's "Can't take my eyes off of you" on the piano. We were immediately seated by a fire place and took in all the warm Italian decor. Our servor's name was Judy and she was very friendly and attentive. We ordered their stuffed pizza with sausage and were blown away by the fresh tasting tomatoes and killer sauce. I'm a big guy and half of their medium pizza filled both myself and my two friends. No matter...you'll want to left-overs of this pizza and enjoy it a second time around. Navigating LaGrange Avenue can be tricky these days but Papa Joe's was well worth it!

We decided to come here since there was an hour wait at the restaurant we originally wanted to go to. Upon standing in the entry way of Joes, we thought this was a very upscale restaurant since the door noted you must wear appropriate attire and there was a pianist. But upon further observation, this was not the case.

Restaurant appearance:
Ambiance was ok - dimly lit for a romantic setting and live piano music, but the appearance missed the mark and was confusing. Private party rooms had white linen table cloths while the regular tables had dated pleather table covers and blue chairs from the 80s. Carpet was worn and dingy. It seemed like the restaurant was aiming to be an upscale Italian restaurant but has more of a diner feel but with dim lighting. It was quite noisy while we were there. Children were running around yelling.

Our waiter was ok. He seemed like he was rushed or either new. I asked for a straw and never got it, we had to ask for silverware, and we didn't get a refill on bread unless we asked.

Food was very mediocre. We started out with soup and salad. The cream of chicken soup was really good, but the minestrone soup was nothing to write home about. The salad came with cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes on the side and that mixture was very salty!
My partner ordered the veal marsala and it was bland. I ordered the stuffed shells and the sauce was too sweet. I should have gone with my first thought and ordered the pizza.

Like going to a family members home for dinner except a bit more crowded and no bickering. Great food, service and atmosphere in and old fashioned environment. From downstairs, at the bar, to either of two other levels we've had very comfy, cozy dining experiences. We visit as often as possible for a nice dinner or a pizza.
