We took the FLW audio tour of the neighborhood. Ten homes are viewed from the street as the homes are private homes. It was a wonderful view of his style in various situations- low to high cost expansive to compact and remodels.

As an architect, it was great to see all of the Wright houses in such close proximity to each other, and of course, they are beautiful!

10 properties (9 homes + the Unity Temple). Half were designed by FLW, the others were of the same period and equally as interesting. Most of the house were within a couple blocks of one another. So although a Trolley was available to get from one area to another, it truly was a walkable tour for the most part. We were told they sold out at 2500 tickets. There were lines up to 30+ minutes at some of the 'first time open' properties, but we were able to see nine of the ten properties in the eight hours they were open. If we hadn't stopped for an hour for lunch, we could have seen them all. We were told that although FLW's Studio/Home + the Unity Temple are always included, the others change each year. I have to say, it was one of the most well organized one day events I have ever attended. The docents in all of the properties were quite knowledgeable. It was well worth the ticket price.

Through happenstance I was the only one on the housewalk so I got very personal attention. My guide has been doing the tours for 30 years and was terrific. Great way to see Wright’s work! Highly recommend.

We were lucky enough to score 2 tickets to the annual Wright Plus Walk in Oak Park. This annual event gives fans of Frank Lloyd Wright the opportunity to tour 8-10 building designed by Frank and other Chicago architects. The volunteers are plentiful and knowledgeable. There are lines at most homes, but the volunteers keep you moving without rushing you.
Get there early so that you’re in line at the first house when the tour starts at 9:00. Bring snacks and beverages to consume while waiting in line. If you break for lunch, you won’t have time to see all of the buildings, and you’re not going to want to miss a thing.
