Both elevators were down. One of the bar tenders was extremely rude. The restaurant was understaffed and under qualified. The power went out. The WI-FI and TV stopped working. And there were always cigarette butts along the front porch where we spent most of our time waiting for the elevators to work.

Overall a lovely, unique hotel in a great walking area. 2 blocks from the lake and tons of restaurants, stores. Decor was unique while having a sophisticated touch. Unfortunately both elevators were down for most of our stay. We were on the 8th floor. I understood main elevator has been down for quite some time. We did book our rooms using a discount they had going! Saved quite a bit booking in advance.

The room was very nice. Good bedroom area and good bathroom.

If you don't like elevators, and I don't, the only elevator they had working was a freight elevator in the back that was tiny, creaky and old. Many patrons would simply not get on it and were walking up and down the staircase.

The restaurant/food is marginal but there are many, many eating establishments within easy walking distance from the hotel. It is two blocks to the lake and good beaches and parks (no play equipment at the park). It is four blocks to the El going South to Wrigley or downtown or North to Wilmette.

The price is right for Chicago and it is so easy to get downtown on public transportation. The valet was $30/nt but there is tons of street parking if you are willing to walk a block or so to get to the hotel.

Beautiful neighborhood snuggled amongst some very impressive homes.

Personnel was hit and miss depending on who was behind the desk...what else is new?

Overall great location, nice (on the old side) hotel and I would stay there again but insist on a lower level room. Bear in mind that this place is old. Not a lot of bells and whistles. No ice machines on the floors or no room service. Quiet and charming.

The hotel itself is small and charming. The staff they chose to represent them is rude and nasty. Pretty much at every station, from checking in to checking out. The elevator didn't work, but there is a service elevator that is tiny. So be prepared to wait in line to get to your room. They won't print out your receipt ("the printer is broken"). BTW, both times I stayed there the printer was broken, so clearly it's a lie. And I was told (actually, the front desk woman yelled this at me like I was her 2 year old child) they won't serve a cup of coffee in the breakfast room. You MUST use the coffee maker in your room. (Yes, the coffee maker we're all advised to never touch in a hotel room.)

Stayed here for graduation weekend at a high rate, but it was all that was available in town. I understand why it was available. Room was dirty - lots of shelves & books around the room that hadn't been dusted. Even the faucet in the side bar alcove was dusty. Main elevator doesn't work. Got stuck in the secondary elevator twice - emergency call button and open door button didn't work. Fortunately I had my cell phone to call the front desk and wait for someone to come open it. (And, yes, I completely closed the outer door).
