We had a great dinner here and the Carne Asada was cooked a perfect medium rare! It's the best Mexican food in Elk Grove Village, hands down!

Most of the staff has been here since we've been dining here starting in 1998. We love the family culture among them and they are all so much fun. We also love the food here and they will customize your dish of you like certain sauces and spices. The margaritas are very good. If you're lucky you'll be here on a night when they serve the cream of cilantro soup, yum! Thanks for the memories and fun times!

Tapalpa is a small friendly Mexican restaurant that severs authentic Mexican food, not Americanized like many Mexican restaurants. Here you'll get the real thing with reasonable portions and prices.

We love Tapalpa for several reasons. Mostly because the food is local-of-Mexico and nothing is run of the mill. The owner, IIRC, is from a mountain town in Mexico and takes his cuisine skills from there. If you're looking for everyday tacos and enchiladas, you might try someplace else. But if you want a different vibe, try the seafood or the "enchiladas suizas" which are some of my favorites. I've never been disappointed except for one thing only -- the cream of cilantro soup isn't my thing 'cause I don't like to O.D. on cilantro. It might be just for you! Give the place a try. You may wait a few minutes for a table on weekend nights but it will be worth it.

I erectly visited Tapalpa with a friend for dinner. We moved form the area a number of years ago and hadn't been back but remembered Tapalpa as a great local place. We were there on a Monday night and they were still quite crowded. After being seated we were served chips and salsa and we each ordered a margarita. The chips were fresh and salsa was fairly mild. The margaritas, although good, were a bit bland. My companion ordered the special which was a pork enchilada which she declared was very good. I had the large shrimp which were sautéed in wine, butter and loads of garlic. It was also very good. Both entrees came with refried beans and rice. Our waiter was attentive even though he had a very large party he was serving at the same time. All in all we had a very good meal.
