A Warm Welcome for the Weary Wanderer

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Sept 2013
Having driven for twenty-six hours from Las Vegas via Denver, the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers was certainly a welcomed sight. The garage parking was easily accessible with a direct connection to the beautiful décor of the expansive lobby. The front desk staff were very accommodating and friendly, swiftly expediting our check-in and sending my daughter and I off to the fifteenth floor where we found a very clean and comfortable room offering an unbelievable view of the river below, Lake Michigan to the left and the Chicago skyline laid out in front of us.

After a wonderfully relaxing night’s sleep and an invigorating shower, we headed down to the lobby to formalize our day’s exploration. The concierge was both patient and extremely helpful as she laid out what proved to be a very enjoyable walking tour of the main sights of the city.

Later, after a delicious lunch at the nearby Purple Pig, we returned to the hotel. Deciding to explore more of the city, I set out for Millennium Park while my daughter remained behind to utilize the hotel’s fitness area. With its generous offerings of a wide variety of equipment, including several exercise bikes located on an outdoor balcony that reveals a stunning view of the city, Adrianna deemed the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers to be at the top of her list of premier hotels.

Later that evening, exhausted from a day of exploring, we decided to order room service rather than dine downstairs in the highly recommended Shula’s Steakhouse. We were not disappointed. My cheeseburger was grilled to perfection while Adrianna’s Caesar Salad was fresh and delicious. After our lovely meal, we treated ourselves to the surprising gift of Astor chocolates left on our pillows.

For those individuals who desire a friendly, dedicated and accommodating staff, very comfortable accommodations, amazing views, delicious food and a perfect location, you will not be disappointed with the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers.

This is a very popular hotel and the reception check in area seems to be permanently busy. The location is excellent, in the heart of downtown and next to the river, near to the lake. The interior design / layout struck me as being typical of a hotel built in the 70's so I was surprised to find it was built in in 1992. We found the layout very old fashioned, which is not a criticism, just an observation.

The hotel was fine for us, great location and near to where we wanted to go. Our room was large but a bit dark look over the city and needed more lighting. The telephone was on the working desk with no bedside handset, so if you book a wake up call you have to get up and walk to answer the phone. some of the power points did not seem to work with our transformers and we had to ask for a technician to get the TV to work. but these were not serious problems. The only real issue I had was the wifi internet was extremely difficult to be able to log on too and it did not work with Chrome, only IE.

All in all it was a good reliable experience. The room was clean, the hotel had good facilities and was in a great location. It was an old fashioned interior design, so for me it will not be a great hotel, but it is a reliable hotel

Spent long weekend with my family on baseball trip. Hotel very comfortable and staff friendly. Had a great (but pricey) meal at Don Shula's in the lobby. Hotel bar in lobby also very good for late night food & cocktails. Room was comfortable and clean thought the TV did not work after the 1st night. Nice view of the water from the room and location to attaractions was convenient. Would stay again if the price was a little lower.

Let's start with the positives. Check-in was fast and friendly and the location is really really good, walking distance to Navy Pier, Millenium Park, Mag Mile... So great choice for a weekend in terms of location.
The downside of a hotel of this size is the rooms are tired, doors are worn-out, carpets aren't dirty but quite tired as well...
Many hotels in this area, so would probably try a different one next time

I stayed at this Hotel for 5 days in August. The facilities are OK - spacious room (albeit overlooking an enormous building site), small pool and reasonable gym available at no extra cost. The decor is dated - rather 1980s, the bathroom in particular looked like it could do with a refurb. The bed in the room was enormous and reasonably comfortable, the room also had a 2-seater sofa and a separate armchair. The desk was handy although the draw would not stay shut, the chest of drawers had seen better days. The communal areas - reception, lobby, ballroom, bar etc are all pretty impressive.

The room was $149 per night at a heavily discounted conference rate. Much of the hotel's business seems to be from the conference circuit, clearly they cannot fill the rooms for the standard tariff (which is in excess of $250 - which would represent VERY poor value for money). Also keep in mind the tourism tax and other sales tax which add another $20+ per night to the price.

Internet is $13.95 per day. My main tip would be to avoid using the in-room telephone. The charges are eye-watering: a $17.95 connection fee for calls within the USA, and then about $4 per MINUTE thereafter. This is clearly a total scam to rip people off which bears no relation to the actual cost of the phone calls.

We were quoted over $30 each for breakfast (needless to say we didn't take it). On the plus side, free wifi in the Lobby, free luggage store, 12 noon checkout as standard.

I would have given this hotel 3 stars if it wasn't for their rip-off telephone charges. It is an OK hotel, but for the money quite frankly I expect a lot better of an American hotel.
