“Great location and friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2012

We arrived at the hotel really early (10am) even though our room was not ready Malcolm (Guest Relations Manager) set us up in a temporary room. Later that afternoon we moved to a Jr. Suite in the new tower. The room had a small living room, separate bedroom and two bathrooms. We have stayed at numerous IC around the world and it's always nice to have two bathrooms. The furniture in the rooms is a bit dated but functioned well. The hotel was super busy with what looked like to conferences plus it was labor day weekend, as such we got one of the mobility suites, it was fine. Interestingly you can only get ice on one floor (7th) so you have to plan around that if you want or need ice. We used Four Square and got a buy one get one free wine flight at ENO the hotels wine bar after checkin-in three times.

After a long weekend there were some bill discrepancies which the hotel took care of immediately at checkout. Over all a very nice stay with great customer service all around.

Pro's : Location is perfect, in room city guide very good and that's pretty much it for me,
the cons were that for the price we paid, we had wall paper peeling off the walls, we have brown stains on my pillow, holes in the bed sheet, some of the furniture in the room was coming apart, and we were told we had two double beds in the room, we could pay extra again for a king size (which we refused) but the double beds were tiny. Also you have to payextra for the use of the pool / gym and Wifi is expensive enough apx $ 13.00 a day.
Also some of the front of house staff were helpful and some must have been having a bad day.
Overall I find it hard to recommend the hotel unless you get a really good price, perhaps we just got a bad room but i wont be coming back to this hotel on my next trip to Chicago.

We recently (Labor Day weekend) scheduled a family vacation at the Intercontinental. They are 6 in our family and we arranged for 2 rooms with a roll out bed to accomodate all of us. We made this arrangement with Expedia. Imagine our dismay to get to the hotel and discover that Experia dropped the ball (Expedia also screwed up our reservation in Pittsbugh earlier in the summer). Margaret in Guest Relations put up with my temper. She was able to locate larger rooms that would beable to hold rollaway beds AND she was able to waive the upcharge. She made a disappointing start into a positive trip.
two lessons I learned:
1. We will never use Expedia ever again.
2. Always book with the hotel direct - and at Intercontinental in Chicago always deal with Margaret, she deserves a raise.

Indeed the location of this property is exceptional. The service provided by valet/bellman Will was exceptional too. Will maintained a smile throughout the humid mornings and hot afternoons.
Front desk staff Patrick was helpful too as was Klibourn upon relocating from one filthy room to another [still] dirty room.

The misfortune of watching housekeeping clean the room one day was mine as I was packing for our early departure the following morning. The room attendant used the same sponge from the toilet to the sink to the bathroom countertop to the desk top without ever once rinsing in disinfectant.

A call was placed to management about the “potential health issue,” but minimal effort was put-forward to understand the issue that likely continues.

Room Tip: Ask to observe the room being cleaned before getting comfortable in your room.

The great service starts at the front door. The doormen are excellent and I especially want to compliment Will on his "always freindly and helpful" service. He always has a smile and greets guest very cordially. Since my freind and I are repeat guests, we are always pleased when he greets us by name and makes sure our needs are met. He goes out of his way to be helpful, even to the point of telling taxi drivers to take good care of us. If there is such a thing as "Doorman of the Year" he shoud be it. His service is always excellent and he is a credit to your your staff as well as a major assent in terms of customer satisfaction. He always makes our comings and goings special.

Room Tip: I prefer the historic tower and the architecture and rooms are asthetically more pleasing and the am...
