Unlike many restaurants from that area this Eritrean restaurant is open for lunch during the week. Most of the customers were native to that land so I know the food is authentic. I loved it. The coffee was exceptional. It was dense but not bitter. It had a rich pleasing flavor that did not even need the provided sugar. Of course I had the lamb but there were vegetarian choices too. It is less expensive than the Ethiopian restaurants in this area. I loved the place.

We flew to Chicago to visit friends and told them we were "into" ethnic foods. They thought we would like this restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is rather dark and stark -- it is definitely not fancy or upscale...but the food is wonderful and well-seasoned. Our friends ordered the vegetarian combination, while we ordered a combination plate with lamb and one with chicken. The combination plates come with injera, the spongy Ethiopian bread with which you use to scoop food into your mouth.. We've had Ethiopian food before, but this was quite a different experience. (It's akin to Chinese food and then there's dim sum.) The lamb was delicious but we found ourselves gorging more on the various veggie dishes each of which had incredible flavors. The combination plates come with a scoop of rice in the center surrounded by scoops of 5 or 6 veggie dishes, all differently prepared such as ground red lentils with tomatoes, garlic and jalapenos (the BEST), string beans with curry; carrots and potatoes in a light curry sauce; collard greens with onions and tomatoes; okra and spinach with onions, garlic and jalapenos. The veggie dishes were so flavorful and filling that one doesn't really need meat. We told our friends the next time we come to Chicago, we want to return to this place.
