Run, don’t walk….

If you are looking for A M A Z I N G Korean food with A W E S O M E service and F A N T A S T I C atmosphere, head to GOGI. I am so glad that people take the time to post reviews because this is what brought me and my beautiful nieces and their adorable boyfriends to this wonderful establishment! How often do you finish eating at a restaurant and already have the next dinner planned at that same place?!!! For me, not that often! We ordered a ton of food and delicious drinks that made us certainly feel as if we had landed in Korea for an authentic meal. You will simply not believe the amount of side dishes and how tasty each one is. Typically, I have seen maybe 3 or 4 side dishes served at other Korean restaurants but here there were 13! They really know how to do it at GOGI and more than fulfill your craving for delicious Korean food. We had a couple of appetizers, the seafood pancake being a total must. We requested it extra crunchy and of course, it came out deliciously crunchy with fantastic dipping sauce. Then we ordered a couple of BBQ meat and vegetarian meals. Each one was better than the one before! Because I am not a vegetarian and got to try everything!  They paid so much attention to us that we truly felt like family. There was nothing we ever needed that was not immediately brought to us and the SERVICE WAS SECOND TO NONE. They cooked for us on the little grill at the table and we had so much more fun being able to chat with our waiter. He TOTALLY MADE OUR EVENING! So, as a result of this U N R E AL experience, we will be coming back with a larger group hopefully in mid December! We absolutely cannot wait! We had so much fun!!!

THANKS Peter FOR RUNNING A WELL OILED MACHINE! WE LOVED MEETING YOU, YOUR MOM AND YOUR STAFF!!! We cannot wait to see you all again!

The food was expensive, but the appetizer selection was more generous than in most Korean bbq places and the meat seemed of higher quality (i.e., less fatty). The waitress helped us with the grilling, which was appreciated. The interior design was quite nice. Would definitely return, next time hopefully with a larger group.

Thank tzhs

Let me tell you about Gogi. Walking in, you are hit by a smell so enticing it will cause you to lose all control of your saliva glands. In a good way. You probably won’t notice the pleasant decor or the friendly staff at this point because you only have one thing on your mind: getting some of whatever is making that smell in your mouth as soon as possible. I didn’t actually use the menu, instead asking to be served whatever was recommended by the staff, and, going by the fact that every single thing that arrived on my table was mind-blowingly delicious, I can’t fault this strategy at all. It does, however, mean that I can’t recommend many specific dishes because, although I was informed by the servers as to the names of the dishes I was about to consume, when the food started coming I was so enchanted by the display of cooking in front of me, and the fabulousness of what I was putting in my mouth, I immediately forgot what everything was called. No biggie.

The food came quickly, and there were side dishes aplenty, all presented wonderfully and equally as good-tasting. The seafood pancake was heaven-sent, and the soup was so good I stole my dining companion’s when he wasn’t looking. I think he has yet to forgive me. Then came the meat. Oh my god, the meat. Marinated to perfection and oozing with flavours that will make you question if your taste buds have even been working properly up until now, it is cooked right in front of you at the table by either yourself or an expert BBQist. You just take pieces right off the grill, pop them in your mouth, or with salad or whatever floats your boat and... ... holy s***. I have had a lot of meat in my mouth, believe me, but this, my friends, is the best damn stuff that ever crossed my lips. As if that wasn’t enough, after you have enjoyed this mouthgasm of meaty goodness, the lovely staff will take make you a bangin’ egg fried rice in all the meat juices from the grill, which is a perfect way to end a perfect dinner. They also have a fantastic selection of craft beers and some splendid soju that will get you as merry as merry can be.

TLDR: Gogi will please you in ways you didn’t think you could be pleasured, and you may have a hard time resisting the urge to go there twice a day. I know I do.

I have been on a Korean BBQ kick lately, and this is the best that I have found. Great food and atmosphere with adequate parking (it is in a strip mall) on the north side of Chicago. A thoroughly enjoyable evening in an atmospheric restaurant. A little bit on the pricey side is the only knock on it that I can come up with.
