In as few words as possible, you will not find a hotel in Chicago with better service. I had organized a meeting to be held here at the end of march, and from the first call back to the bellman on the way out, every interaction with the hotel staff was pleasant, professional, and comforting, all at once. Truly the hallmark of good service.

I had the good fortune to be working with Jennifer who was a wonder in assisting me in organizing the logistics of our meeting, and thinking of the small details that really made it stand out. Amanda was likewise a wonder to work with, and helped deal with several last minute changes to the dinner we had planned at the Shanghai Terrace.

Regardless whether you are visiting Chicago on business or leisure, The Peninsula is a fantastic hotel downtown. Beyond its excellent service, and truly friendly people, the property is gorgeous, the rooms are huge, and the location is ideal. Highly recommended hotel.

Stayed at the Peninsula last week for 3 nights with my husband. Let me share some observations:
-Excellent location: Right next to the Water Tower. Mag Mile shops for all tastes- Saks, Niemans, Macys down the street. Cabs were never an issue, and being that the entrance is on Superior Street, it’s not crazy or overly populated trying to get in and out.
-Outstanding Dining Options: We had a chance to sample all but one of the dining options. The traditional Asian restaurant, while not the best interiors, had incredibly elegant food with good size portions. Food tasted exactly like a 5 star in Asia. Not cheap this one, but well worth it if you like traditional Asian flavors. The restaurant connects to the Terrace which will open in early May and looked like a fabulous place for drinks and apps. The Bar (the hotel bar is called, yes, the Bar) is always a favorite spot in Chicago for its luxe interiors and fantastic wine list. The food was good too. Room service was great. There is also a French café at the ground level by the entrance which was the coziest place with a mix of locals and tourists. Amazing quiche and deserts! Perfect place to grab some coffee, a bite to eat and read the paper before heading out for the day. We did not get a chance to try the Lobby restaurant for a full meal; but tried a sampling of dessert from the Chocolate Buffet offered on weekends, and it was devine!
-Service is 5 star: Like the food, the service is outstanding. From the doormen to room service to restaurants, sincere and polite service to beat most Four Seasons in the US.
-Rooms need some sprucing up: This was the only arena I thought the hotel lacked. Although the rooms are great- super comfy bed, nice bathroom, plenty of space….they feel a little dated and plain. A room can be understated yet luxurious, as demonstrated by Park Hyatt right across the street. It felt like they had not received an interior design visit in a while. We had the highest category you can get for a room before getting to a suite, and while it was super comfortable, it could have been a little more luxurious like the rest of the hotel.
All in all, the hotel is a great, central location with all the comforts you could need, as long as you get a good rate on the property.

Location, service, wonderful room. No complaints at all regarding this hotel.

Room Tip: I had one of the smaller rooms and it was very large so I think you are safe with any room at this property.

I am not a fan of entering a "pre-lobby" then elevating up to the "main lobby" but that small thing aside, this is a 5 star property all the way. The staff is the highlight, welcoming and professional, you can tell they know how lucky they are to work in a fabulous hotel. We were not in a "premium room" so we did face the Park Hyatt but the rooms were a nice size. They electronics are nice, you can turn on the lights in an "area" by bright or mood which is really handy. They had a lovely soaking tub with a small tv and excellent music controls in the bath. The bath is a good size but do to an odd configuration, the doors from the shower and "toilet room" often collide. There is a nice changing area with seating that is nice. The bed and pillow was amazing. The few negatives were: They don't keep an iron in the room so you have to call house keeping which I found inconvenient. I also had to call for a shower cap, isn't that a standard bath amenity? The lighting is cool, but because they have this "control center" for everything on the phone (no kidding 12 led lights at least) we had to cover it with a towel to sleep. I do love the window seat and the open soaking tub at The Park Hyatt, but now I have a second fabulous weekend getaway spot in Chicago.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. Fantastic staff!!
