“Fantastic Boutique Hotel Palomar”
Reviewed 24 April 2012

Loved the Hotel Palomar! Free coffee until 11am and wine hour every night in the sitting lounge, very friendly staff, and Sable Kitchen-adjoining restaurant all top notch. Very clean, nicely appointed rooms. Location-within walking distance to the loop and water tour place and Michigan Ave shopping. Great weekend break!

Room Tip: Stay away from the State Street side of the hotel

I'd forgotten how great Kimpton hotels are! My idea of luxury--no OTT, but so many details that really make my stay more pleasurable & relaxing. We usually go for cheapest, but had our son with us and wanted a special stay:
• most importantly: REALLY comfortable beds, pillows & super-soft bed linens
• Very green ethos, without being spare feeling in any way
• The entire space super tastefully designed and decorated (and huge!)
• Great lighting, and rheostats on all of them (noticed how most hotels cut back here?!)
• Everything imaginable available for free if you ask (instead of junking up the room)
• Great perks for members (which it costs nothing to become)--free internet
• Great tech features--iPod/iPhone docking statio
• Minibar with things you'd actually want to eat/drink
• Really nice bathroom fixtures, great shower
• Evening service with excellent chocolates

And, at a price not much more than places not nearly as nice!

I stayed at the Palomar for 4 nights between April 19th and 23th 2012 and was impressed. The Palomar truly offers the service that you expect from a hotel in this class (but that you rarely get anymore these days). Whilst the rooms, lobby and the hotel overall are comparable to other hotels in its class, it is the eye for detail that sets the Palomar apart (ranging from the lighting in the room, to the daily wine reception in the lobby, to the helpful people at the reception (receptionist Indre was lovely). The Palomar is a breath of fresh air when compared to the chain Marriots or the Hiltons in the same area). Compliments to the staff of the hotel!

From a practical point of view, the hotel is very well located just two blocks away from the Magnificent Mile and next to the Grand Red metro station (with easy access to and from the airport - be it O'Hare or Midway - so no need to face the costly taxi ride and rush hour traffic).

I booked the Hotel through Hotels.com and got a very acceptable rate (GBP 112).

Room Tip: I stayed at a regular room at the 9th floor. No complains though.

We live in Chicago, but stayed here for a night for our anniversary. We were given complimentary champagne and upgraded to a spa king suite, which included a comfy and beautiful two-person spa tub. Delicious! The room was stylish, attractive, and comfortable. The robes were a nice treat, as were the snacks and wine at the manager's reception. All the folks who work there were lovely. The pool area looked great, but (and this is my only complaint) there is no hot tub. The spa in the room made up for it and more for us, but there really ought to be a hot tub...

Stayed at the Palomar April 9-11 with the family (kids 12 & 14). The hotel was very attentive to your request and just plain friendly! Pool on the 17th floor was great, too bad it was too cold to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. Have to tell you the Happy Hour each night was a pleasant surprise and the manager on duty was great to talk to and very friendly. The rooms were very nice and modern. Kids really like them. The location of the hotel can't be better, close to Michigan Avenue which besides shopping also gives you close access to just about every bus line you would want to get to things like Shedds Acquarium, the Museum of Science and Industry and other like places.

The restaurant onsite was a great appetizer place before we went out for the night, kid friendly and the food was very good. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a fair value, great service, friendly staff and close proximity to just about everything! Try the Weber Grill Restaurant right across the street, it was very good!
