Owner description: The largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere! Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World’s Fair, MSI is a Chicago must-see. You’ll experience 14 acres of hands-on exhibits and have the chance to stand before a 40-foot tornado; climb aboard a World War II German submarine; take a run in a human-sized hamster wheel; descend into an Illinois coal mine; tour a fully functioning eco-friendly home; board a 727 hanging from the ceiling; transmit your pulse to a 13-foot, 3-D beating heart; and much more! MSI is not a place where you walk around quietly and observe. No way! You get involved in the fun—and learn—by doing. Just a few miles from downtown with convenient underground parking.

Excellent for the kids, many hands on exhibits like the Storms, and the science center.

“Great place for the family”

Great all-day family entertainment; but if you have a family of 4 or more, check out the membership - it can actually save you money.

This was the most amazing museum. Our children really enjoyed all the interactive activities. My husband and I also learned a lot. The submarine was impressive.

This place is huge. Don't expect to see it all in one visit. We ave been there bout 5 times and still find new attractions. If you don't like this place I really can't help you.

“Better than any we've visited.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2012

Went with my 13 year old son, fresh off a visit to the Smithsonian just a few months earlier. We got 'stuck' in the museum because it was so amazing. There are 'wows' around every corner.

Allow some time (lots of it) because you don't want to shortchange this gem!
