A country house hotel done right - you'll love it.

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 weeks ago
After a 4½ hour drive to the west from Heathrow, we arrived at the village of Narberth and followed the detailed instructions to find The Grove. The access road became a one-track path so narrow that the car was scraping hedgerows on both sides. We began to wonder what we had gotten into - was this a mistake?

We arrived at the gate to The Grove and finally got a glimpse of this country house hotel. This was no mistake - this place is a gem. Check-in was quick and easy. It was fun to explore the interior with its wood-burning fireplaces and comfy seating and then finding that each room was unique. Even the creaky wood floors add character to this charming hotel (a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World).

Rooms have a walk-in shower and tub, a king bed, a well-stocked fridge with free goodies, LCD TV, fast Wi-Fi, heated floors, and farm-themed decorations. There are views of the countryside with the Preseli hills in the distance. The location is ideal to explore the Pembrokeshire coastline.

We discovered the best part in the evening when we dined in the Artisan Brasserie. Everything on the menu is interesting and tasty. Everything. Breakfast was traditional with all that you would expect.

Even in January, the hotel was quite full. Our advice is book early. Yes, it is a challenge to get there, but after you arrive, you will be so glad you made the trek.

We are delighted we decided upon The Grove to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. We had every confidence it would be a splendid choice partly because of our previous experiences of the venue but even more so because of the care and attention given to the planning by Louise Lewis its incomparable event organiser and the flexibility she afforded us.
It was a family only occasion plus some quasi family friends. Many had not experienced the opulence of the hotel before and were vociferous of its fine and distinctive taste.
We opted for a Sunday lunch date. The food was however as far from a mundane roast dinner as possible without breaching trading standards. Guests still salivate over the delicious and imaginative spread. The service was impeccable.
We were afforded VIP treatment throughout the organising process and, very particularly, on the day. Those of us who took advantage of the accommodation luxuriated in the experience.
Some other friends who knew our plans created a hugely pleasant surprise revealed to us on the day by Louise that they had made a substantial contribution to the costs. it will be instructive to mention that those friends, who live in some style in England, nearly always stay at the Grove during their regular visits to Pembrokeshire. Theyy are accustomed to booking the finest hotels. They rate The Grove up there with the very best.

Thank you for choosing us for such a momentous occasion as your Golden Wedding Anniversary and for taking the time to write such an eloquent review. Louise is thrilled that the day went smoothly and that you speak so highly of her. She, I know enjoyed working with you all, making it special for her also. We are always delighted when new and future guests walk through the front door and we are full of joy that we were able to do this for your family. We are very proud that your friends rate us 'up there with the very best'! We will continue to work hard and look forward to welcoming you back in, what we hope will be the not-too-distant future.

A wonderful birthday weekend. Family joined us for a long and relaxed brasserie lunch on Saturday. Everything was delicious . Our room, beca, was super and the bed was huge and comfy. We liked the complimentary items in the fridge and the good coffee. Staff were all very helpful and the whole vibe was relaxed and cosy. The breakfasts were lovely, we enjoyed the eggs with avocados and salmon, and the home made croissant were fabulous.
The only slight niggle in beca as a room is that it is above the giant refrigerated area of the kitchens so there is a constant hum underneath the room. We got used to it though. Otherwise is it super, with countryside woodland views , a sofa, comfy chairs, a huge bath and separate shower. Delightful smellies provided as well. We loved the weekend.

Room tip: Book your lunch or dinner ahead as it is a popular place. We had no issue with parking at all

We booked a short local stay after Christmas to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday and the whole family, from 10 to 80 years, old enjoyed every moment. We were greeted as we walked down the drive and the discreet attentiveness of each member of staff shone throughout. The rooms, both in the garden and within the main country house style hotel, were delightful, our young granddaughters even set an early alarm to allow time to experience the slipper bath and the dog loved her bed, blankets and treats! The food served to our group of 12 was delicious and imaginative, much enjoyed by all! The various lounges provide peace and privacy and are beautifully furnished as is the entire hotel which wraps itself around you with stillness, comfort and luxury. We are so fortunate to have such a gem here in Pembrokeshire.

Thank you for choosing the Grove for such a significant birthday celebration. It was a privilege to host your family and to be the backdrop for such a lovely day. We are pleased you enjoyed the house and the surrounding suites, and we are delighted your granddaughters found so much to explore! The team are proud of their work and are pleased that you enjoyed the 'delicious and imaginative' dining for your husband's birthday dinner. We look forward to welcoming you all back, for many years to come.

A wonderful relaxing 3 days. Magnificent room with complimentary mini bar and one of the most comfortable beds we have slept in. The ground floor lounges and bar were full of character, and the food and wine in the restaurant were superb. Outside the grounds were wonderfully kept and well worth exploring. Will visit again soon.

Thank you for visiting us at the Grove and for leaving this 5* review. We are so pleased you were able to relax before the busy festivities! We are delighted you found the bed one of the most comfortable you have slept in and you enjoyed the complimentary mini-bar. The lounges are lovely at this time of year with the decorations and fires and we are glad you enjoyed them. We look forward to welcoming you back, hopefully before next Winter!
