“A Great Place to Stay”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

My husband and I spent four nights at The Roosevelt Inn the first part of April. We had a wonderful time staying at The Roosevelt and exploring Coeur d' Alene, Sandpoint and northern Idaho. Staying in a re-purposed elementary school was perfect for us. We loved the individual room decors, the historic school photos in the hallway, the fantastic gourmet breakfasts, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and Tina and John, the owners. We were spoiled with extras like turned down beds and locally made chocolates left on our pillows at night. They also have coffee and tea available in the dining room to enjoy with those chocolates. I hadn't realized they had a hot tub, so we didn't bring our suits. When I mentioned that to Tina, she produced a tub of "loaner suits" we could borrow. With our borrowed suits and the plush robes in our rooms, we made use of the outdoor, covered hot tub twice while we stayed there. We'll stay at The Roosevelt on our next trip to northern Idaho.

My husband and I just spent two nights at this location and had a wonderful time. The owners have done a nice job with this building and grounds plus the breakfast was outstanding. Nice easy location. Since we went on a Groupon, it was a steal of a deal.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Meyer Room but I think they are all about the same quality, just different furnishi...

Words just can't explain what a pure joy our experience was at the Roosevelt. My mom is from Coeur D'Alene and one of her childhood homes is on Garden. This trip back to the Washington/Idaho area was all for her...I wanted it to be perfect. Tina and John couldn't have fullfilled the order any better. The moment we arrived, every morning at breakfast to the second we left, my mom felt like a Queen. Our room was beautiful with a great view of the lake, actually the entire Inn is beautiful. I found myself missing the Roosevelt for several days once we left. Again, I can't thank Tina, John and staff enough for making a dream come true. I love the Roosevelt, it's truely one of a kind, please don't change anything you are doing. I so look forward to returning.

Just spent a weekend at a fabulous B&B in Coeur D’Alene Idaho – the Roosevelt Inn. You can look them up on-line for details, but it is a historic school house remodeled into a B&B. The architecture is stunning and the rooms are all beautifully decorated. We stayed in the Olin room - very cozy, yet spacious at the same time. There is exquisite antique furniture in the room and space for a very comfortable queen bed and two wing-back chairs in a small sitting area. The bathroom has only a shower, but it is a big shower with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. I’m a bit of a pillow snob, but the pillows were pretty good. We had a peek in some of the other rooms, and they were equally gorgeous.

Location is great. A couple of blocks back from the lake, right at the edge of the residential district. You are steps from all the action, or the beach, yet with a relaxing retreat so you can get some quiet time, if desired. Lots of options for dining and entertainment. The landscaping is beautiful, lots of spots around the property to sit in the sun or the shade (mostly rain on this weekend – we stayed indoors where it was warm and cozy!) There is also a hot tub and a sauna in a beautiful gazebo out back, which remains open for guests 24 hours a day.

The staff are amazing!! Very attentive and helpful. We were greeted on our first night by John and Tina Hough, the owners. John brought warm bread pudding and water to our room on a silver tray with a rose in a vase – very classy! The warm bread pudding was sticky sweet and marvelous – home made by Tina, and very welcome after a long drive. There is always a ready supply of juices, water, coffee and tea, along with homemade cookies for guests to enjoy. John and Tina are fountains of local information, very knowledgeable about resources in the area and the history of the building. Tina helped my husband find a great local restaurant for a surprise dinner – the Cedars, a floating restaurant. Check it out if you are in the neighborhood, it was very good.

Breakfast is a cold buffet and a hot food option - both of which are excellent. The buffet has bread for toasting, muffins, a couple of cereal choices, a waffle maker with homemade waffle mix, yogurt and fresh fruit. Lots of beverage choices – standard coffee and hot water for tea, hot chocolate and apple cider, along with orange and cranberry juice, water and milk. The hot food options changed each day, generally eggs of some kind, with bacon or sausage (great sausage) and potatoes. The potatoes had onions and peppers and other good stuff mixed in – scrumptious! I didn’t get name of the gentleman that took care of us at breakfast (I think it may have been Dave), but he was awesome! Always there to take away a dirty plate, or bring you a new one full of some new culinary delight, or refill a coffee or juice.

Add in turn-down service at night, and I would recommend the Roosevelt Inn to anyone going to the Coeur D’Alene area – family, romantic weekend, or friends’ getaway.

Room Tip: If you like a dark room when you sleep, ask for a room at the back. There are street lights on the f...

This is a wonderful, welcoming place to stay. Our hosts couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. We were surprised each night by a treat and a turn down of our bed and the daily included breakfast was wonderful. Tina's scones and mixed fruit was the best! We never made it into the hot tub or sauna, but it looked inviting and relaxing. Thank you for a great break in our everyday routine.
