We decided to try Cracker Barrel after a day of hard skiing. It was within 5 minutes drive from our hotel. Yes, it is a chain restaurant, cute store front with many rocking chairs. You walk through the country store both going in and coming out. The dining area is gigantic. The roaring fireplace was going, it was wonderful! Kept us nice and warm. It was decorated with many country themed artifacts.
Our waitress, Mary, is just a gem. She was super friendly, made recommendation when we asked her what should first-timers consider. She came back to check up on us, and always had a smile on her face. In the end, we ordered the sampler and the pecan crusted catfish from the wholesome menu (lighter fares). It was fun to combine all the items and just sampled!!
We liked the corn bread better than the biscuit. Enjoyed the jam and apple butter that came with them. The sampler had meat loaf (just ok), chicken dumpling (yummy), and the sugar ham (very good). We really enjoyed the pecan crusted catfish. For sides we got a variety, liked the coleslaw, steam broccoli, and green beans. Thought the fried okra was just so-so as the mashed potato and gravy.
Got the blackberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream for dessert. With beverage, our bill only came to near $27, including tax. Where can you eat all this for that price?? Amazing. The portions were not enormous, which is a good thing. Keep the prices down, so we can try more items.
One note: They do not have any alcoholic beverages.
