Our family passes through Boise a few times a year and I used to live in Boise in the 90s. We've stopped at several places over the years. We discovered Tangos in 2016 and now we only want to eat at Tangos when we go through Boise. The empanadas are fantastic! The owner is very friendly and nice. If you haven't been to Tangos, go! It is awesome.

Went yesterday during lunch. Small place, off the beaten path and PACKED with patrons. Confusing and crowded inside, half the people are in line to order the other half have tickets and are waiting for their orders. A healthy dose of 'butt-n-face' here.. as you're standing waiting to order or to pick up your order you're butt is level with everyone trying to eat. WOW.. uncomfortable.
Staff is amazing and helpful, cheerful and LOVE you love their food. Make sense? Four of us, 3 ordered kid combos.. you get 2 empanada's.. chose any two.. savory or dessert. It comes with a small handful of fries and a drink. Seating is WAY limited, but there's inside and outside seating on a few picnic tables alongside the buildling with umbrella's. The street is very close and VERY busy - so it's going to be a busy affair. Wait times can be an issue - if you're coming here from work for lunch.. better go elsewhere or come either side of the lunch hour - WAY too busy. Good for Tango!
I ordered the Tango sub. When we finally got our order from a very happy staff, the empanada's all look the same so you need a little explanation as to what's what - that's fine. The empanada's are hand made, crisp and full of good stuff, the fries are nicely crisp outside and fluffy inside - which anything less than that in Boise would be punishable., 5 dollars for the combo was a good deal, my crew was full which is half the battle... and they all enjoyed their fare. One had Hawaiian with ham cheese and pineapple, the La Vida with tomato's onions shrimp and imitation crab, also a cafemellow - which looked like a smore inside, La Voca which was a pepperoni pizza inspired deal. Everyone was happily gobbling up the empanada's. My Tango sub was good.. the meat was a little challenging in that it wanted to pull out with each bite. It appears to be a flank or skirt steak that's also fat fried. The mayonnaise was excellent- I'm guessing Hellmans *(can there be any other?), tomato and lettuce - pretty simple. The BUN however... take note... the BUN was spectacular.. it was crusty on top in a most delightful way. WOW.. the bun. The least favorite part of everyone's sub usually.. and this was a standout item. Reminds me of the heat and serve buns from US FOODS which are unmatched... amazing and augers up rants of bliss from all takers. WAY TO GO TANGO.
Overall... plan ahead. Don't go for lunch if you only have ONE lunch hour. But don't miss this one on your day off or either side of the busy lunch hour. TripAdvisor evidently gave them a 5 overall which they proudly display on their wall - and rightly so. I save 5 for the most amazing gastronomic experiences. I think for local fare this is a don't miss. There's an extensive menu of meat, veggie, dessert options. Something for everyone.. the kid combos are PERFECT size for up to the late teens. Also of note, sounds dumb, but the fountain soda (cola) was VERY cold and perfectly fizzy.. they got the mix exactly right - this to me is a big 'miss' at a LOT of places.. they nailed the soda. I will be back for more. Thanks Tango

Went here for a midday snack with my husband. We tried three different empanadas - chocolate, chicken tinga and one other. They were all amazing! The empanadas hit the spot and the cashier was super friendly. I'd definitely recommend the place!

Good food, kind start and reasonable prices. This is good on a date, for work, or even just a quick bite to eat with friends. Really recommend this place.

Not wanting to deal with the downtown hassle, my search found Tango's. The Boise location is in an interesting location and a non-assuming building. Go away! The Gaucho, BBQ, chicken mole, pork with green sauce, mango, and caramel were all delicious!!
