“Great little beach community”
Reviewed 16 June 2011

We have been to Tybee Island twice. We love the location. The beach is nice and clean, you can see dolphins and turtles. The Lighthouse is nice to visit. Just a few minutes away is Fort Pulaski and Savannah. We love Savannah too! So you can swim and hang out on the beach and take in the sights and history!

“Tybee Island -- good for family including dogs! M:)”
Reviewed 14 June 2011

Tybee Island is such a quaint little beach town. Parking is anywhere there is room to park on the side of the road, but remember, you have to pay for your time there by paying a parking box.

The sand is gorgeous! It is the same consistency as fine sugar, so your feet don't burn walking on the bare sand. There is a band shell that has concessions, bathrooms, and an actual band playing.

The best part for me was seeing that dogs are welcomed guest on the beach too! There are plenty of life guards, so don't worry about swimming in safe waters.

If you make it to Savannah, GA, then I recommend spending at least one day at Tybee Island. M:)

“Family Friendly Island”
Reviewed 13 June 2011

My sister, mother, and I travelled with our families to Tybee Island the first week in April. The weather was unusually cool and rainy, but we still had a wonderful time. Our families stayed in a rental property on the beach. The beaches were clean and family friendly. We strolled each morning (weather permitting) collecting shells and admiring the jelly fish that had washed up during the night. I would highly recommend renting bicycles from Tim's and riding the bike path through the island. It is a beautiful ride and you can get almost anywhere you need on bicycle. We enjoyed the many attractions like the fort, light house, and animal park, but our young boys most enjoyed watching the cargo ships as they came in and out of the Savannah River. Since Savannah is so close, we decided to make a day of it. We took a sight seeing tour and ate at Paula Deen's. As far as eating you cannot go wrong with any of the local eateries in Savannah, but our favorite place was The Crab Shack located just past the bridge on Tybee Island. The low country boil was excellent. On Tybee Island there was something to make everyone happy. Which is impressive travelling with children ranging in age from 2 to 14. We plan on making a return trip and trying our hand at kayak.

“Redneck Riviera”
Reviewed 4 June 2011

Tybee has been getting tackier, more money-grubbing, and generally nastier for the 10 years I've been visiting (occasionally). At my last visit in June 2011, street parking - STREET parking, which is free around much better beaches, is quite expensive and others in my party got expensive tickets for very short overstays. Every second house seemed to be for rent or for sale, or both; bars outnumbered restaurants, gas stations and grocery stores combined; and the bar/restaurants there were were seriously scary temples of local beer and elderly fry grease. I've stayed at 4 of the local hotels and each one was buggy, less than clean, and in need of renovation; but these accommodations fetch $250+ in season. For me it is well worth the 20-minute drive north to Hilton Head or the hour's drive south to Jekyll and St Simon's Islands.
