“Nice get-away”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

I had always heard about Jekyll Island but never visited there.
It was spring break and many of the hotels in area were full.
Even though we cannot usually pay as much for accomodations, we decided to try the Club Hotel. The room was small as expected in an older building, but it was updated and nice. We were pleasantly surprised to see all the offerings for food choices right on the premises and loved taking our bikes riding all over the property to take photographs and read historical markers.
All staff were very friendly- even the grounds crew stopped to take a picture of my husband and me.
Best of all, there were no unsupervised young folks partying and our stay was very quiet and peaceful. We wished to have stayed longer to relax even more.
The book store was a delight and i left with several reasonably priced gifts.

I spent 6 days at Jekyll Island Club Hotel with a Road Scholar group and will never forget it. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and the weather cooperated, so it seemed like May or June to me. There are several options as to rooms, and I stayed in a lovely original part of the hotel, which has enough illustrious history to write reams about. My window gave onto the immaculate gardens, the heated pool, and the palm-lined river where pelicans waited for fish. Coming down to the graciously served meals, I'd peek out to see if anyone was playing croquet in their "whites," the required uniform for croquet buffs. We even got to learn how from a real pro. There are walking tours, jitney tours, little shops, a tennis pavilion, and a sea turtle sanctuary right on site. You can walk to the ocean past one of the golf courses and have it all to yourself in the winter. There's a water park on the little island, and Okefenokee Swamp, with interesting tours, is a short drive away.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

Mid-March is a lovely time to visit the coast of Georgia: warm days, cool nights and no humidity. We had heard great reports of Jekyll Island Club Hotel. It consists of several properties in the center of the historic district. Millionaires from the Gilded Age built the original hotel and cottages. Many have been lovingly restored and several are used for accommodations and restaurants. Fortunately we were given a room with a balcony/porch that I requested. It was in the Sans Souci Cottage, formerly apartment building units. It featured a large room with a king size bed, four arm chairs, a fireplace, a Jacuzzi and a porch complete with two rocking chairs facing west and the setting sun. What to do? Here are some ‘must dos’: a museum depicts the island’s history and a 90-minute tram tour of the historic district includes entry to two renovated cottages. Walking and biking trails crisscross the island. There’s a pristine public beach on the Atlantic side. One night we had dinner in the Crane Cottage courtyard loggia. Very romantic. Spend a few days here and you won’t be disappointed!!

Room Tip: River view with a balcony/porch

We have been coming to the Jekyll Island Club Hotel for years. Each time, we find it to be elegant, friendly, relaxed and comfortable. We ask for a riverview room so we can see the sunset from our room and/or porch in the evenings over the river and marshes. Beautiful. For outdoors people, there is a lot to do. We golf, bike, run and swim in the ocean and gorgeous pool. There are tons of great biking/running trails. Our sons' favorite nature trail passes by a small pond where we are almost guaranteed to see an alligator. Our little sons love the mini-golf too. For the charm, the views and the amenities, the rates are remarkably low. Staff is great too. Very friendly and not at all snotty.

We've stayed at the hotel the last three years in mid- March. Never seen a drunk college student anywhere on Jekyll Island during our stays!!! It's such a great place to relax, ride bikes, walk on the beach, forget about winter, and enjoy the sunsets from the porch. The food and service in the Grand Dining Room are always outstanding. The hotel staff are so friendly and helpful. It's so nice to see the same people every year. We plan to visit each year and always hate to leave.

Room Tip: We always stay in a Traditional double/double room. We've stayed on the second floor on both si...
