That's how this place got started. Some of America's richest men made Jekyll their summer home (loose translation of history there). Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, Vanderbilts. So in order to fully appreciate your visit, it's good to keep in mind that parts of this place were built around 1900, even late 1800's. Yes, some of the hotel rooms are small; that's how the place was built back then. But it's the whole historical experience: from knowing the federal reserve bank was born here to the enormous oaks with limbs so long their knees rest on the ground, to the "cottages" of the mega-rich, to the croquet court on the front lawn, to affordable rooms and tasty seafood. It's a wonderful way to spend a few day. Disclaimer: I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce. I do live in Georgia. I hate gnats, love mama and grits, and azaleas only bloom in the spring (for those looking at the photos).
