Tired of driving from Asheville to Cordele we unexpectedly found this Country Treasure.
It could be an easy choice because a lot of restaurants in the area are the known chains, so choices are very, very limited. However if you put a little effort in your search for better. Daphne Lodge is The Place to be.
Having said that, you could always run into the Evil of High Expectations.

Daphne Lodge did not disappoint!

The location, next to the lake, somewhat hidden in the woods, is very nice. And invites you to enter.
Since we did not make any reservations, it's always a surprise what will happen. The people from Daphne, later we found out it were the owners, gave us a well located table. The service was friendly and correct. And the wines were above par.
The food, fish and meat, all delivered!
Highly recommended!

group of 5 ladies out for dinner. The service was a tiny bit slow when we arrived. (6pm reservations- very busy). Waitress had great knowledge of menu. I had filet mignon and shrimp. Both were wonderful. Beef was tender but could have used a wee bit more of spice!(for my liking), key lime pie was GREAT!!!! Great evening. The owners introduced themselves . Great restaurant in the middle of nowhere (except close to the Veterans State Park where we were staying)

Every time I have been here it is delicious. I had the lightly battered fried shrimp and cheese grits. Husband had the parmesan grouper and both were perfect. We're there in a Thursday evening and a large crowd there but we had reservations so that is recommended. Look forward to going to this special place again.

Our lone waiter was over-worked so not all of this is on him. Watery she crab soup that was returned and a lukewarm grouper entrée that was almost returned. I had to mind my manners because we were dining with folks who think Daphne can do no wrong. And … Daphne's does not understand how to bus a table. Used soup cups and appetizer plates still in place as our waiter tried to jam the entrees onto a very crowded table. I asked him to remove the used service but he put down the plates of food and then removed the dirty dishes. Sameo sameo with the desserts. Either our waiter was new or he just did not care and his tip reflected my displeasure. This place (according to its menu) is on some kind of Georgia historical registry for grand places to eat. Daphne's is tucked into a wooded surrounding off of a lonesome country backroad. Seeing the exterior and entering a sort of log cabin interior, images of savory dining, fine wine, wunnerful service are one's thoughts. But if you know anything about decent dining and decent restaurants, Daphne's will disappoint you.

What a wonderful experience awaited us at the Daphne Lodge! We knew we were in for something special the moment we pulled into the pine filled parking lot. The front porch was very welcoming at the rustic decor inside was charming and cozy. All the selections sounded delicious and it was tough to choose, but we were not disappointed at all in our choices. The shrimp was lightly breaded and the steamed broccoli perfect. My friend was amazed at the size and quality of her chopped steak. Her twice baked potato was sampled by all of us. My other friend greatly enjoyed her fish selection as well. We were particularly impressed by our fresh colorful salads and the selection of salad dressings brought to our table for us to sample and share. Wonderful place to enjoy family, friends and food! Service was excellent and we were made to feel welcome the moment we walked through the door.
