We searched several online sites to find the best quote for a five night stay at the Bilmar. Found a gulf view room with a balcony and kitchenette for a total price (including tax and a ridiculous $20/day amenity fee) of $914. We then called the resort directly and they quoted a "returning guest" total price of $875. We agreed to that price and provided our credit card information. When we arrived at the hotel a few days later, we learned that they charged our card $940. The desk clerk was sympathetic and three times excused herself to ask her manager if they could honor the amount quoted. The manager repeatedly said no, but could not be bothered to get off her butt to discuss it with us. Since our credit card had already been charged, we had no options but to take it. In addition to this unethical practice, the room was in dire need of updating, the cafe was closed four out of the five days we were there, and Sloppy Joe's was ridiculously over priced. As for the beach, it is about a half mile walk from the hotel to the water, and we were bitten to death by sand fleas/gnats.

Dear Mr. Daigneault2016, I sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding regarding the room rate for your recent visit to the Bilmar Beach Resort. I researched your reservation and the difference appears to be the room rate for Friday night. The slower week days are discounted more than the peak nights of Friday and Saturday. It appears the original reservation reflected this pricing and your returning guests 20% discount and an email confirmation was sent 4 days prior to your arrival. I also saw that your credit card was not charged until you checked in at the front desk when you swiped the card for the total charges. I will reach out to your directly in an effort to resolve this issue.
I am happy to report that all 166 guest rooms and the exterior of the Bilmar is undergoing a complete renovation this fall. It will be done one building at a time to reduce any guest inconvenience.
Sincerely, Clyde Smith – General Manager

We had a great experience and an enjoyable stay.
Clean, updated, restaurant on site, and ON THE BEACH!
Loved it!
Must mention we live here and were here due to Hurricane Irma. We called and they were able to accomodate us while our power was out for the week. I will definitely recommend to all my visitors to stay here. I will definitely go back for a staycation!

We live on Treasure Island and are familiar with the Bilmar. It is a very clean and well run hotel right on the Gulf of Mexico. After hurricane Irma our house had no power so we checked in to the Bilmar where they were running a special for residents. We had a wonderful night in a nice clean air-conditioned hotel room with a beautiful view. I would recommend the Bilmar to anyone traveling to Treasure Island.

My wife and I stayed at the Bilmar...was referred to it by some friends who live in Tampa. Wow! What a surprisingly, charming little property, especially if your're used to California beaches like us! My wife and I stayed in a ground floor unit in the 4 story bldg...back of room is a sliding glass door that opens right onto the sand! Its a fairly long walk (100 yards maybe) to the water but it didn't matter...the resort fee gives you access to chairs out by the water...and its a beautiful stroll over white sand. The hotel had two restaurants, both right on the beach. One is more of a breakfast spot...it was in same 4 story building as our room. The other outlet is called Sloppy Joe's. Apparently Sloppy Joe's is extremely well known among both local Tampa folks and experience Floridian travelers - original Sloppy Joe's is in Key West. SJ's closes around 10pm (which as a hotel guest is great because you don't have to deal with the noise of having a lively bar underneath your room!)...for after hours (ie. after 10pm), I highly recommend walking across the street to Ricky T's! This place seemed to be hopping every night - live music, etc. We loved Ricky T's...even closed it down one night! Our room was spacious and well appointed. We had a frig to keep cold drinks in...but to be honest, we didn't hang out in it much. We were either out on the beach, eating/drinking/ or in the rental seeing the sites of St. Pete and Clearwater. The Bilmar is a gem...we highly recommend it!

Room tip: Except for only one wing, almost every room faces the ocean

We were heading to the Keys when Hurricane Irma decided to speed up and change directions. We turned around and came to the Bilmar. We originally wanted to stay 2 nights but of course Irma had other ideas for us. The staff was awesome! They fully understood and credited us back the one evening we did not stay. Thank you! We will be back again! I hope everyone at the Bilmar, their families and homes were not severely impacted by the storm!

Dear Valued Guest, so sorry Irma changed your plan for the Keys but thank you for returning back to the Bilmar (before she changed those plans also). By the luck of God our community was spared most of the major damage expected. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the more severely impacted communities in Florida and the Caribbean.
