“Beyond Expectations--GREAT service-oriented property”

After much research/reading on cruisecritic/tripadvisor--we decided on booking the Hampton Inn Rocky Point/Tampa Airport for post-cruise. (We sailed on the March 25 HAL Ryndam). I called the hotel directly and made the reservation for the Tampa cruise package through Johnny (front desk clerk); he is excellent. After arriving at the Tampa airport--we called the HI Rocky Point and about ten minutes later Ambassador Limousine (in a Mercedes Benz van) picked us up and we were at the hotel in about five minutes. The front desk was SO accommodating to us--arranged an early shuttle to the cruiseport. Upon return from our cruise--after clearing customs--I called to get transport back--the van was there in about 5 minutes-we were able to check into our room BEFORE 10:00 a.m. Our room was a king-size room--nice LG flat screen television. Our bed was very comfortable. The hotel is in a very nice area of Tampa overlooking Tampa Bay. I signed up for a shuttle for the next day to take us back to the airport---it was on-time, efficient; if you are looking for -a perfect pre/post-cruise hotel--look no further--OUTSTANDING customer service.

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor (508) --great location!

We recently checked in for 8 nights.Upon check-in it seemed there may have been an issue with other guests that were in the lobby, the 2 ladies behind the front desk seemed very rushed to get us out of the lobby and we kinda had to figure things out for ourselves. The first night I got up in the middle of the nite to get a drink of water and there was none. Apparently there had been a water leak somewher in the building, it was restored and we were good to go by about 10am. Unfortunately, 2 nights later were were awoke at 1 in the morning by a call from the front desk asking if we had water leaking into our room - we didn't at that time, but an hour later it was pouring through the bathroom vents and rolling down the outside of our windows. I still don't know what happened above us, but it was bad. We ended up needing an extraction and fan set up in our room. The manager explained they were fully booked, as were the hotels around us ( Ichecked, and that was the case). These things were no ones fault and since we were not in the room, except to sleep, we dealt with it with no problem.

The hotel does offer spacious and very clean rooms, the breakfast is hot and delicious. It's located in a quiet area that is safe to walk in - there's a nice park across the street with a cove where we saw dolphins one morning!! We also enjoyed being able to walk over to Bahama Breeze, which we took advantage of several times - as well as the bar/restaurant at the Westin next door.
Aside from the first day, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful!
I work in the vacation hospitality business and typically when I travel to Tampa I stay at the Westin next door, so I have a tendency to be picky-picky.
I'd definately stay here again!

I am not sure if the staff was having an off week or if they were just rude. There was a problem with our shuttle service. When we spoke with them about it we were greeted with a tremendous amount of attitude. The older gentleman in charge of the shuttles was nice, but he was the only courteous front desk employee. There were A LOT of complaints the weekend we were there and we only stayed one night. People were talking in the breakfast area.

The hotel was clean though.

Very clean rooms, great staff. The price for the park and sail program was very reasonable. Would stay here again if sailing out of Tampa or just visiting Tampa.

Our room was dirty, other travelers garbage was behind bed in grime on floor. No coffee or water avail on arrival. After requesting they fill the complementary pot, they didn't even for hours and several requests. The head desk guy finally just got me a cup from the employee breakroom

Room Tip: Try to not stay here. If you do, request room on side of hotel away from thruway

I'm very sorry that your experience was tainted by such an easy fix. We now have hot coffee available to our guests 24 hours per day. We also have a great housekeeping staff, and I'm certain that your unpleasant experience will not be repeated should you stay with us in the future.
