This is a very nice museum that you really should stop at. We went in March and the Temp was perfect . . Don't forget your AAA card to save some cash. Would go again.

“Almost like a zoo! Great with kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2012

We visited during the Jazz and Blues festival, so there was a great atmosphere going on. You learn and appreciate how the early days folks live, and go on a nice walk to see many animals.

There is a children play area too, great to spend an afternoon. We had no little ones with us but still enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

“Response to the Terrible Review”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2012

My daughter went to preschool at the Tallahassee Museum and we've been loyal members ever since. We all know how much they love and care for the animals, most of which are rescues. Some look in bad shape, because they have been nursed back to health, often from near death. We just discovered that Carmella, our beloved cow, is no longer with the museum. She was very old for a milking cow, and the museum had done their best to keep her as comfortable as possible for as long as possible. They have a cute, young cow now. The environment for the animals is very natural, so they are very rarely seen bored and pacing, like zoo animals often are.

The displays are staffed by volunteers, who will come in their free time to demonstrate quilting, iron working, cooking in a late 1800 kitchen. So, you won't see the volunteers during all visits, obviously. But, the beauty of the displays is that you can explore on your own, imagine you're living in that time period, read and learn at your own pace. My 8 year old daughter loves climbing around in the caboose and pretending she's part of the train crew, for instance.

This is not a thrill a minute activity. It's a nice, outdoor natural history museum. They are adding a treetop adventure course, though, for those who need a bit more action. And, there are some fun live music events held here throughout the year.

“Interesting combination of history and animals”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2012

Our family spent the afternoon walking around. There is quite a bit of interesting history about the area. The displays are showing wear but they are interesting. We also had fun looking at quite a few animals; not so much to compare with a zoo but enough to interest you for 90 minutes to an hour.

“Absolutely Love Everything About It!”

The grounds are just incredibly gorgeous. They have very affordable passes. The preschool is darling. Love everything. You can easily spend a whole day out there if the weather is nice!
