“Best Sushi in Miami”
Reviewed 23 July 2008

I have been going to Miami for several years and always stop at Sushi Republic in north Miami by the beach. I always see the same excellent staff providing great service and great Japanese food.

A bottle of chilled sake, a half futomaki roll, miso soup and tip come to $19! The rolls at the other tables were all made with great care. My futomaki is the same whenever I order it and the rice is clearly of high quality since you can tell by the sweetness and moisture.

Their prices are more than reasonable. Sushi bar is a little small but they are expanded next door so that will be interesting to see (and eat at) A nice place in hustle and bustle of Miami!

“Awesome Sushi and Staff!”
Reviewed 25 January 2008

Surfside is right down the street from Bal Harbour - a quick walk from the Bal Harbour Shops yet a completely different world. Sushi Republic is a streetfront narrow place where you walk into what looks like the back room, then the bar/sushi chef area and then a few tables in back.

Everyone was so friendly, from the sushi chefs who loudly greeted us, to the waitstaff. We were guided to a table - on a Sunday night in January the place was packed with locals that all seemed to know one another.

The prices were quite reasonable and the menu very extensive and easy to navigate with photos and descriptions. There were daily specials on a chalkboard on the wall and a table placard with the wine and beer selection (which was average and average prices).

The restaurant is not fancy, decor is simple but warm and everything was very clean (I think the women's bathroom was cleaner than the one at my hotel in Bal Harbour). A sushi/sashimi boat for 2 (came with salad and miso soup) and two glasses of pinot noir was about $65 with tax. The miso soup was excellent and tasted fresh, the salad was standard with ginger dressing. The sushi boat was plentiful with creative sushi and large pieces of sashimi. The waitstaff stopped by often enough to care for us well, but didn't rush or annoy us.

This was by far one of the best dining experiences we had during our stay in Miami. We felt like a local and enjoyed a delicious and reasonably-priced meal in a friendly atmosphere!
