Sandcastle Resort at Lido Beach

The outward appearance of this hotel looks good. The front lobby is beautiful. The people at the front desk were very nice. The pool area looks good, but don't go out early in the morning or you will enjoy trash cans overflowing with towels and trash laying around. Our room look good over all, until I woke up in the morning with my little flashlight, careful not to disturb my two sisters sleeping, and to my surprise as I went to make coffee, the flashlight revealed a whole lot of nasty. The coffee pot, around the coffee pot, on the refrigerator where the other cups and things were sitting was terribly filthy. It looked like it had not been washed in quite some time. Went to take a shower and ended up standing in 4 inches of water. Yuck, it made me feel sick. I went to the front desk to tell them about our experience . They were very nice and quick to give us a little money off of our bill, and three meal tickets for breakfast. They also said they would send someone up to our room to do deep cleaning and fix the tub clogg! We came back to our room later that afternoon, the tub was fixed, the beds were made in the floor vacuumed, but the coffee pot, or around the coffee pot on the table or the refrigerator have not been touched. Minimal cleaning was done. The keys in the doors constantly did not work, and the back door that went out to the beach was rusted so bad we wrestled with it the whole time we were there. The bathroom was dirty, and the window were really filthy , As we had to open it because of no ventilation in the bathroom at all. The only good part of our stay, was that the beach was right out of our back door on the bottom floor, but you will pay the price for a bottom floor room, as it sounded like a herd of cattle was above us the whole time we stayed. Lots and lots of children. The amount of money we paid for a supposedly great hotel, we will never stay there again. If you read the reviews on the hotel website or other reviews, they sounded great ! That's how we were tricked into believing it was a good place to stay. And one more thing, when you go into the breakfast dining room, be sure not to touch the chairs, on the back or the arms, or you will get pretty sticky, though the waitresses and helpers were very sweet , helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: If you want quiet, this hotel would not be the one!

This hotel is a little tired as others have mentioned but the location is amazing, one of the few hotels right on the beach and the rooms are large and well equipped and maid service was excellent. However there are two outstanding things: the food at the pool bar and eve restaurant and the staff. The manager Tim in particular was so kind, funny and could not do enough for us. It was evident by spending 5 minutes in reception that his staff loved working for him which made them happy and helpful especially Alicia, and the guests returned annually to the hotel for his kind of hospitality. I will be one of them! Thank Tim and the crew, Louise from London!

I would definitely recommend getting a beachside/view 1st floor if available. It made it so easy for my kids to run right back up to the room from the beach. I lived in Sarasota for years and Lido Key is my favorite place to go with my family. The hotel was older but clean. The bathroom is very small but did it's job. We stayed with 2 small children and were comfortable. I wouldn't stay here with a bigger family, as the rooms aren't big. The kids loved the pools and the location is quiet and beautiful! I would stay here again.

The hotel is ideally situated right on the beach. The white sand is just stunning. The pools are a great size with one warmer than the other, so you can choose. The room is large with double sinks, a fridge and a safe. We took a leisurely stroll the St Armands for tea, there are many eating establishments to choose from. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant, we took the buffet option at $20 each we found it quite expensive, however the children's breakfast was excellent.
Parking is free and easy. For a no frills stay then you should visit the Sandcastle Resort.

Keep your expectations realistic and this is a perfectly suitable family vacation destination, and super convenient to all the shops and restaurants on St. Armand's Circle. Very old school in terms of the pink decor, the damp, sandy carpets, and the seawater smell that permeates everything, but surprisingly quiet and comfortable. Staff is very accommodating, and don't miss a round of drinks at the bar with Diane - she's the kind of no nonsense people-tender every family-friendly resort depends on.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a one-bedroom suite for a better balcony, a better view of the gulf, and more breathing r...
