“This is Really Good Mexican!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2012

Ok, I lived in New Mexico and in Southern California and don't frequent the local mexican restaurants in Sarasota area because I found them to be too "Americanized" or just plain not that good. But, after reading all the great reviews I decided to try El Toro Bravo and "BRAVO". They got it going there! I had the Chili Relleno Plate. It was hot, fresh and very tasty. The rice was good and the refried beans were very good and did not taste like they came out of a can. My mother got the shrimp fajitas and her shrimp was full of flavor and not over cooked, tender and not rubbery like you can get at other places. The service was excellent. They do not sell hard liquor so no traditional margaritas but the hostess suggested the wine margaritas and I thought (ewe) but she offered if I didn't like it there would be no charge. How sweet. So I tried it and could not believe how much it tasted like my favorite top shelf margarita! So, try it. We were way too full to try anything else but after hearing it was our first visit the waitress said wait one more minute and I will bring you a special surprise. Out came the mini chocolate brownies decorated very pretty with fudge sauce spelling "welcome". They do a very nice job and I will go back for sure... and will have that wine margarita again! P.S. We got there early (5:30) on a Thursday and they were lined up at the door by 6:00.

“Fresh and delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2012

Visited for the first time, this rather smaller and very busy restaurant located in a strip mall on Stickney. Reservations recommended. However, the combo plate was outstanding, the rice and beans were fresh not like the globs of stale sides one gets at a chain resteraunt. The chili relleno and enchiladas were authentic very fresh and absolutely tasty. But the big surprise was the hospitable and extraordinarily welcoming atmosphere that Ruben (I believe owner) gives to the restaurant. He ensured our meals were to our satisfaction, asked if we wanted a spiced up version of the salsa (which I really loved) and ended by providing a surprise dessert which consisted of an ornate welcome plate drizzled in chocolate accompanied by two bite sized warmed chocolate cake bites! The restaurant aims to please and Ruben and his staff are fantastic.

“Best Food in Sarasota”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2012

This is my favorite restaurant, not just Mexican restaurant, but any restaurant in Sarasota - and that's saying a lot because we have some great places in this city. But this place is always fantastic! The food is always fresh and piping hot from the kitchen. I have ate there at least once a month for a couple of years now and this restaurant is consistently clean, the staff courteous and prompt and the food is always delicious. Everything on the menu is wonderful. Chef Reuben always makes it his duty to come around and greet us and makes everyone feel like a VIP. If you haven't tried El Toro Bravo, my suggestion is just try it once and you'll be hooked!

“Not Mexican food, Stay Away”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 January 2012

One of the worst Mexican restaurants I have ever ate at. The service is excellent but the food lacks flavor. The appetizers looked like they for it out of the frozen food section at Wal-Mart. Stay away.
