Great place to camp, with lots of extras available for recreation. Well maintained and clean. Get your reservations far ahead of time; this place fills up in a hurry! Allow time to explore the whole park, you will not regret it!

Saw historical fort , the beach is beautiful and has a long stretch , we were on our way to Punta Gurda and made this detour which was worth it
We paid $5 to get in on the way to the beach we crossed 2-3 causeways and the view of St. Petersburg was spectacular

We returned again the end of March for four nights. We try to get #6 which is for tents and campers on the water. We take our kayak which we leave on our little beach. The restrooms and showers were clean with plenty of hot water. The only complaint there is that the toilet paper is the narrowest and thinnest I have come across.

They have workers that inspect and clean each campsite prior to a scheduled check-in. They even remove ashes from the grill. They rent washtubs at $5 per night for campfires, so if you will be there a week, it may pay to buy one elsewhere. Also wood is high priced at the camp store so it is better to bring you own.

One of the bonuses is the beach, it has been rated in the past as number one in the country. At the end of North Beach there is a tidal pool that you can walk though.

I do miss the office being open though. On a past trip, we had our #6, but there was a howling wind coming off the water and we were able to switch to a sheltered site which I don't believe can be done today. The rangers came by every now and then and are friendly as is the cleaning crew.

As great as Fort DeSoto is, it is difficult to reserve a site. Unless you are looking 6 months in advance, your only chance is a cancellation.

While visiting we stopped by here a couple times. There is real nice dog beach where your pet can chase their tennis ball in the beautiful warm water while mom sits in a lawn chair on the white sand beach. Just down the road out can grab a bite to eat at the snack bar. I recommend the fries also. Then take a ride to the end to watch the folks parasailing with the bridge in the background.

Really nice campground. We have a 37' Class C and had no problem getting into our site, #164. Water and electric hookups were good. There are clean (very) showers and bathrooms (we did not use but I had to check them out!). I used the laundry facilities, they are located outside the bathhouses. We took a drive around the campground one afternoon to check out other sites for a possible return visit. We highlighted quite a few, they layout of the campground in nice, and the dump station is out away from the campground proper. Lots of sites that back up to the water. There are 3 loops; one is a dedicated pet loop, the other two are off limits to pets. The campground office was not open, but our confirmation e-mail had the site number and instructions so we were good. The cute little camp store was open and I made a few purchases there.

Room tip: This is a campground, not a hotel so these questions are hard to answer.
