“Excellent coffee and ice cream”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 November 2011

After eating lunch at the Gourmet Hut, which is next to and shares outdoor seating with Crucial Coffee, we got dessert, which simply chocolate ice cream (home made of course) with raspberry syrup. Marvelous flavors and their coffes are perfectly brewed.

“The most adorable coffee shop!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2011

Across the street from the Castillo de San Marcos Spanish fortress is the most delightful coffee shop in the world. To see it from the outside you might pass it by as an old wooden shack that has been carefully preserved. But inside you discover it to be an ancient former blacksmith shop that has been converted into a coffee shop. When it was built, it was illegal to put glass in the windows, and they have preserved this tradition, using netting to cover the large open windows, giving it an extra charming look. Even the old smithy furnace can be seen inside, as well as solid wood floors that have been amazingly designed to look like stone! Looking around the coffee shop you'll feel as though you've stepped back hundres of years in time. It is so attractive that you don't want to leave. In the rear of the shop is a large, well groomed and truly lovely garden area to enjoy your beverage.

Name the coffee you want - and they can make it. You don't even need to ask what flavors they offer because they will tell you - from memory - the astounding varieties they can give you. Thinks you never thought of! I opted for the scrumptuous macademia Nut iced frappacino with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Oh, my!! When Willy Wonka first said "scrumdiddlyumptious", he must have coined the word after drinking one of these coffees! Mary Poppins must have first said "Supercalifragelisticexpealidocious" when popping her head into the window of the shop to see its wonderfulness.

St. Augustine is a masterpiece of architectural treasures, and Crucial Coffee Cafe is truly a gem among these treasures and a fine demonstration of the city's historic glory. I cannot recommend it enough!
