We were excited to stay in Panama City, and were thrilled to find a condo that could fit our large group. Our condo owners were flexible with us and allowed us to have 12 individuals stay in their 4BR unit. It was tight, but we enjoyed our time together.... however...
My thoughts on the Ocean Ritz:
The pool and pool chairs are inadequate. This is a 60+ unit condo. The posted pool capacity is 20 and there are less than 15 chairs. Do the math. Granted, you go to the beach to spend time at the beach- but sometimes kids need/want to spend time at the pool. One of the days we were at the Ritz, there was a full rip-tide warning. No one could go into the Gulf. Yeah - the pool area is comical.
Parking is inadequate. I really think the Ocean Ritz got the short end of the stick here. Each Ocean Ritz multi-room condo gets one parking spot on condo property. All other cars for the 60+ unit Ocean Ritz have to park across the street in their reserved 20-car parking strip. Again - do the math.
Here's where the short end of the stick comes in. The next door neighbor to the West of the Ocean Ritz is the Ocean Villa. Across the street from the Villa is a huge 3-level parking garage with an over-street walkway only for Ocean Villa vehicles. The next door neighbor to the East of the Ritz is the Twin Palms. They have their own full parking garage attached to their condo. Across the street from the Ocean Ritz is a 20-car strip and a daiquiri shack. *look at Google Maps, you'll see it* Granted, there is a public beach parking lot the next street North of the daiquiri shack. So yes, there is a someplace to park your other cars. However, each time you need to get anywhere it's a +200yd trek, not to mention walking across Front Beach every time you need to get to your car/condo. It's an extremely busy stretch of road for a lot of Panama City Beach. Who wants to do that?
Bonus story! One day, all 3 of our "20-car lot" cars got a warning sticker pasted on our windows threatening to tow our cars because we were in the Ocean Ritz reserved parking lot..... but every single one of us had our Ocean Ritz passes hung on our windshields! Talking about adding insult to injury. Just ridiculous.
I'll keep this one short. There are 2 elevators. For 1/4 of our trip, one of the elevators was out of order. There were hand-written notes that called out for no more than 10 people, don't jump, don't smoke, don't write on the signs - which we found extremely tacky, but hey - we were in Panama City.
There were other odds and ends that were specific to our condo unit, but rather than bring those up, I'll keep this review specific to the Ocean Ritz itself.
Beach is terrific. Balcony is fantastic. Location is great.
Would I stay again? No - because I am positive there are better places with better amenities for comparable prices.
