Ocean Ritz Condominiums
Reviewed 11 June 2012

We were excited to stay in Panama City, and were thrilled to find a condo that could fit our large group. Our condo owners were flexible with us and allowed us to have 12 individuals stay in their 4BR unit. It was tight, but we enjoyed our time together.... however...

My thoughts on the Ocean Ritz:
The pool and pool chairs are inadequate. This is a 60+ unit condo. The posted pool capacity is 20 and there are less than 15 chairs. Do the math. Granted, you go to the beach to spend time at the beach- but sometimes kids need/want to spend time at the pool. One of the days we were at the Ritz, there was a full rip-tide warning. No one could go into the Gulf. Yeah - the pool area is comical.

Parking is inadequate. I really think the Ocean Ritz got the short end of the stick here. Each Ocean Ritz multi-room condo gets one parking spot on condo property. All other cars for the 60+ unit Ocean Ritz have to park across the street in their reserved 20-car parking strip. Again - do the math.
Here's where the short end of the stick comes in. The next door neighbor to the West of the Ocean Ritz is the Ocean Villa. Across the street from the Villa is a huge 3-level parking garage with an over-street walkway only for Ocean Villa vehicles. The next door neighbor to the East of the Ritz is the Twin Palms. They have their own full parking garage attached to their condo. Across the street from the Ocean Ritz is a 20-car strip and a daiquiri shack. *look at Google Maps, you'll see it* Granted, there is a public beach parking lot the next street North of the daiquiri shack. So yes, there is a someplace to park your other cars. However, each time you need to get anywhere it's a +200yd trek, not to mention walking across Front Beach every time you need to get to your car/condo. It's an extremely busy stretch of road for a lot of Panama City Beach. Who wants to do that?
Bonus story! One day, all 3 of our "20-car lot" cars got a warning sticker pasted on our windows threatening to tow our cars because we were in the Ocean Ritz reserved parking lot..... but every single one of us had our Ocean Ritz passes hung on our windshields! Talking about adding insult to injury. Just ridiculous.

Elevators
I'll keep this one short. There are 2 elevators. For 1/4 of our trip, one of the elevators was out of order. There were hand-written notes that called out for no more than 10 people, don't jump, don't smoke, don't write on the signs - which we found extremely tacky, but hey - we were in Panama City.

There were other odds and ends that were specific to our condo unit, but rather than bring those up, I'll keep this review specific to the Ocean Ritz itself.

Good things:
Beach is terrific. Balcony is fantastic. Location is great.

Would I stay again? No - because I am positive there are better places with better amenities for comparable prices.

These Condos were huge! enough space for our very large extended family! Four Bedrooms each. Very well decorated and furnished! The Condo was very clean and absolutely fantastic! Others might find that the pool is a bit small but this did not bother me one bit as I go to the beach for the BEACH not the pool! There were tv's in every bedroom but the channel selection was limited which was fine since we spent most of our time with family away from the tv. The pictures of other rooms do not do 2201 and 2204 justice as they were much nice than I expected based on the pictures on Trip Advisor. The balconies are huge and had plenty of space to accommodate our entire family plus beach chairs and coolers.

Room Tip: I loved our rooms 2201 and 2203! All condos are privetly owned and are a little different.

We rented our condo thru JFR Beach Rentals. When we arrived at the condo, 802, on wednesday May 2nd, 2012 . the toilet in the master bathroom was broken, there were only 3 chairs to the kitchen table, the breaker in the breaker box kept throwing and we had no electric in 3 bedrooms. starting on Friday morning, but we was out for the day, and it was Sat. at noon before the electric repair man got there and he said the bedrooms needed to be on a seperated breakers, that is the reason why it was happening. and That it was rigged like that to pass code. As soon as the repair man left on Saturday at noon, then it started throwing the breaker again. The remotes to the tv's didn't work properly, the couch had one leg off of it. We have stayed at several different condos and have always been just real happy with them. this one was by far the most disgusting and aggravating. and a real let down. I contacted JFR and they are not willing to do anything to make our stay right.

There are very few 4 bedroom condos on the beach, so we were glad to find this one. Great views, huge, and I mean literally a huge balcony. We had tables and seating for everyone on the balcony, and if you can imagine a balcony where you can have 10 people at one time and not feel crowded this was it. The only negatives for us, was the seaweed in the water for the first 10 yards or so, once you got past it, the water was clear, and they kept it cleaned off the beach. The other thing is, beware of crowded elevators when everyone is checking in on Saturday afternoon and evening. One even broke down from overuse/heavy loads, but was fixed by the next morning. Our unit was clean and well outfitted even the kitchen (I am sure this varies from unit to unit) We did a lot of cooking and all the pots and necessary utensils were available.
