We were worried because of the negative reviews, but from our experience, the complaints are overblown. The pools are nice; grounds are well maintained and clean; the gym was well equipped and centrally located, there is plenty to do and see nearby and the few restaurants close by were quite good. Of note: Staff is consistently friendly. The hotel is busy, with lots of guests - and that can prove a challenge if you want peace and quiet. We had a wonderful stay until the last night. A group of teens were booked in the adjacent room and they made a racket until the wee hours next morning - despite our calls to the front desk. In fairness, it was a good experience otherwise.

Room Tip: Make sure your room faces pool/ocean

My husband and I and another couple stayed in a 2BR suite; We had a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. We had two bathrooms (one with a jacuzzi tub ) and there were 3 flat screen TVs , a laundry room, and 2 balconies. Each couple had plenty of privacy and there was plenty of room to socialize in the shared spaces. Our rooms were spotless, well-appointed, and very quiet.

We found the "complex" to be perfect to get away from it all. There were pools and spas when you needed to get out of the ocean. We found great restaurants, shopping, and entertainment within short drives of 15 - 30 minutes. Everyone treated us wonderfully and we'd recommend it to anyone. There were many families with young kids, teens, and elderly parents. There seemed to be plenty of things to keep everyone happy!

Room Tip: ask for an upgrade during off season

We reviewed Trip Advisor before deciding to go to this resot. Many of them are spot on with what we experienced. I only rated this location a 3 star because we did have a recurring key issue that the staff was just OK when they corrected it. We had to get new room keys 3 times on our stay and the safe malfunctioned, locked and wouldn;t open with our possesions inside, all within 48 hours. We felt a bit uneasy about security due to this and the staff didn't offer much of any explaination nor concern.
The Rivera Beach are is sketchy, at best, as many have commented before. We stayed at the Kingfish building and felt somewhat isolated from the majority of the resort. The building did have it's own pool and pool bar so it wasn't too big of a deal. The beach at this bulding is fairly steep, due to it's location near the inlet and beach erosion. The "crane" many have commented on is there to help dredge the inlet bottom and return sand to the beach, so it isn't going to move. The property is very clean and well kept. I don't think we will return but I heard from the staff that it has one of the highest owner occupancies in all of the Marriott timeshare properties. I would say this indicates that you either really love this place or it won't be your cup of tea. Not much middle ground on opinions.

We accepted Marriot's offer for a 4 night stay for $250 on the condition we sat through a 90 minute time share sales presentation. Granted, we didn't spend a forture on the accomodations, but we did not get a very desirable room either. We were on the lowest floor and our balcony overlooked a parking lot (which was nicely landscaped). Our other windows overlooked pipes. To get to our room we had to follow the signs to the trash room. The room itself was very nice. My only complaint would be that the bed was a bit too soft for aging backs. We elected not to rent a car thinking that we would end up spending less on cabs, and we think we made the right choice. The hotel referred us to a driver that chauffered us to the places we chose to visit. Without a vehicle, you are confined to the resort, and there is very little within walking distant. The restaurants reccommended by the hotel staff were out of walking range. The resort had a Pizza Hut take out window and there were sandwiches available at the bar. There were plenty of tables scattered around the resort pools, but no indoor eating areas, so it's a good thing we had great weather. There was no real restaurant. There were numerous scheduled activities throughout the day, 95% of which we had not interest in, but would be great if you were traveling with children. The tiki hut bar closed at 10:00 which seemed awfullly early, but probably saves you money in the long run.

Though other reviews stated that the hotel was far away since we always had a car mobility wasn't an issue. Our first room had the view of the sand crane, we did an about-face and asked for another room which we got. We had everything near by, grocery stores, restaurants (city place) and beaches (peanut island) nearby. We had the 1bed 1 bath w/pull out (queen size) so the 3 of us were more than confortable. We had problems with the dishwasher, but they quickly came when we called. The hotel was quiet though it was almost full. They had a new splash playground for my daughter's delight. With the money we saved in breakfasts, lunches and snacks we went to Magic Kingdon!!!! We plan to return!!! BUT I have a problem with other pool goers WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR DIRTY FLIPFLOPS INTO THE POOL???? Wash them. elsewhere!!! Its unsanitary and GROSS!!!!
