“Mahalo to the Polynesian!”
Reviewed 5 July 2012

Oh gracious! It was a wonderful 7 days here. The beds were comfortable, the staff great, the rooms clean and the grounds like Hawaii. You do have to park farther away than I'd like. And the new fridges they have are not working well. They have encased them (including front doors) and so the ventilation needed was lacking. They also did not have a micro like I requested, but had it there in 10 minutes after we arrived. It was a larger room than most in Tokelau, being one of the newer additions. Captain Cook's had a self-serve pineapple dole whip that was great, and Ohana was an interesting, however disjointed meal. The food was fantastically flavorful, just very busy and bustling. Our family of 11 enjoyed the Polynesian very, very much. The elevators were not long waits, if you wanted to carry your own bags they didn't make you feel cheap-however, you are not allowed a cart on which to carry them. The guards at the gates were friendly and there was a very secure and safe feeling everywhere. We were up til 2 am walking around and there was no fear (unlike Hawaii!) You can see the water electric parade on the beach as well as the fireworks and they have movies on the beach and also a marshmellow pit. Lots of seating on the beach. 2 pools-one a quiet one that we, as older people, enjoyed the most. We were celebrating our 50th with our family (adjoining rooms) and it was just everything we had hoped for. They even gave us real flower leis and we were so excited about that. Next time, we will be staying here again. it was our first resort experience at WDW, but we have no desire to try another resort. The Polynesian will be our choice. And did I mention that the monorail is right out the front door of the 2nd floor? What an easy way to get around! enjoy!

We stayed 5 nights in a theme park view room with our 3 year old daughter and 5 month old son. We requested a ground floor room so we could sneak out the patio door for Mai tais while the babies were sleeping.

The ability to get to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot via monorail was priceless - you can roll a stroller right onto the monorail. We enjoyed seeing the Magic Kingdom fireworks every night from our room and especially loved the floating light parade on the water - they pipe in the music to the speakers on the grounds for both.

Our room was spacious enough that we were able to fit the provided pack 'n' play in the entry way where our son slept better tucked in his own little cubby.

Our mousekeeper even brought clothes pins from home so we could close the little gap in the curtains and sleep in longer.

We received a warm welcome and silk flower leis upon arrival. We also enjoyed all the restaurants on the property - O'hana for dinner and Kona Cafe for both breakfast and dinner. The grounds are lush and tropical. There is a zero entry pool and pop fountains for the kids to play in, not to mention a sandy beach - sandcastles! The volcano water slide was closed for refurbishment while we were there.

All in all, while it's very expensive, the convenience in proximity and views for fireworks and light shows was worth it to us during this time when our kids are less mobile and we're more confined to the room for naps and bedtime. Plus, less expensive and less time change than an actual trip to Hawaii! We had a great stay.

My family stayed at the Polynesian Resort at Disney for 4 nights during the first week of June and we loved it! My husband and I and our 5 year old twins and my 70 year old mother were all very pleased with this resort. It is a relaxing, tropical atmosphere and nice to escape to after the craziness of the theme parks.

Pros for families with young kids:
Volcano pool, being able to take the boat or the monorail to the Magic Kingdom, playing on the sandy beach by the lagoon, watching movies on the beach at night, watching fireworks over the castle at MK at night from the beach or our porch, renting a pool cabana for the afternoon, big grassy lawn to play on.

Our only complaint was that we stayed in a building close to the luau and the drumming noise was quite loud at night when kids were trying to go to bed.

Room Tip: We think the best location is Hawaii House or Tahiti House near the lagoon and the pool. First floo...

My family chose the Polynesian for our 6-night stay at Disney. What a truly pleasant experience we had! A movie was shown on the beach every night that was paused when it came time to watch the fireworks across the water at Magic Kingdom. What a wonderful way to wrap up each day! The staff was fun, friendly, and courteous. The rooms were clean and well tended each day. The only meal we had at the resort was on our last night. We joined the dinner show "Spirit of Aloha". What a fun experience we had at this dinner! (Next time we will enjoy it earlier in our stay, because it makes you feel like you are a part of things. Like you are home.) Our experience was so extraordinary I can not imagine staying at any other resort!

We chose the Polynesian because we got a great deal and I think it was a slow time of year for Disney World (late August). We had a Magic Kingdom View room and it was really great. You could see the lighted boats on the lake at night from your room, and Cinderella's Castle was lit up all night long. I think this place is best if you have small kids. In the past we had stayed at a lower-priced resort (Pop Century) and when my little guy fell asleep at night, my husband had to carry him to the overcrowded bus, and many times had to stand while carrying my sleeping son the whole bus ride back. In contrast, there was a little boat that takes you from the Magic Kingdom to the Polynesian. It was never full and the wait wasn't long; it was so much easier to get tired kids home. Not to mention the monorail to/from Magic Kingdom and Epcot is very convenient and fast. Also smaller kids seem to need a break in the middle of the day and the easier transport options make a *huge* difference.

If your kids are bigger I think the benefits of location are a little less, the kids walk themselves into the bus and can stay up longer. Also it seems the kids' pool is not as exciting to bigger kids as it is to smaller kids. For example, the pool is kind of small and the slide, though it looks neat (it's like a volcano) is not as exciting to the bigger kids. Still it's a nice resort, especially if you have a Theme Park view.

All of this said it is a very expensive resort when the rooms are really only a typical hotel room. You're paying for the convenience.
