“A fun place to stay, but a few warts”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

Travelled here during June, 2012 with my family. We decided to stay here because of the hotel's shared facilities with the Ritz Carlton next door. Also, as a Marriott Platinum member, i was looking forward to a nice, large-sized room. Our stay was mostly positive, but there were a few wrinkles that should be pointed out.

Positives:
-The hotel facilities are very nice. The lobby is impressive and the pool/lazy river are wonderful resting areas (particularly after a day of running around theme parks in the hot, summer sun.)

-The restaurants on-premise are good. Primo was excellent, while the American restaurant had a good breakfast buffet and was all-around pleasant.

-It is an easy five minute walk over to the Ritz Carlton, which has a lovely spa and some good restaurants as well.

Negatives:
-We were very unhappy with our initial room. Not only was it small, but it wasn't very clean. There was a half consumed bottle of water on a coffee table (was supposed to be a new bottle but apparently had not been changed). The bedspread on the mattress had holes on it. All in all, the room came across as sloppy. To the hotel's credit, when we complained, they did upgrade us to a suite, which was spacious and very nice (it pays to be Platinum I guess).

-The hallways were not very clean. Each day we noticed trash on the floor. I travel all the time and rarely do i notice trash in a hotel hallway. Here I did, leading me to assume that the housekeeping staff is not that diligent.

-The hotel is a bit isolated. While it's only a 15 minute drive to many theme parks, there is really nothing around within walking distance other than the Ritz. We did not have a car with us so we were "held hostage" at the hotel while there. I was also surprised that the hotel did not have shuttles going to the theme parks, I would think when you're that isolated a shuttle would be a natural. Interestingly, one of the drivers who took us to the theme park told us that if we charged the car ride to the room, the hotel would take a 10% "tax" over and above the cost as a service charge. That feels really cheap and unnecessary to me. As a result, we naturally paid by credit card as opposed to putting it on the room.

-The pool and lazy river got crowded. You don't need a key card to get into the pool area and my guess is that people brought in guests. You wouldn't believe how many people were riding on the lazy river on a Saturday. You were bumping into people left and right.

All in all, the negatives were not big deals, and we had an enjoyable stay. The pool is very large and has many areas, so it's easy to carve out a space for yourself. While we had a good time, it's important to know that this hotel is not a luxury hotel in the class of Ritz or Four Seasons. It's a nice, upper scale Marriott with good facilities, but not much more than that.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a rental car or you will be held captive.

We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. Your experience with your original guest room was definitely not up to our standards, and we apologize and are glad that you were satisfied with the resolution. We did want to clarify that we do offer complimentary shuttle service to SeaWorld, Aquatica, Universal Orlando and Wet 'n Wild - our apologies that this was not clearly communicated. We do hope to welcome you back should you return to Orlando in the future.

I've stayed here several times now and will stay here again in the future. The resort is centrally located in Orlando and the property is great. The JW shares the property with the Ritz so they don't short change anything. The pool is the best part with the lazy river that links the pools. It's very family friendly and has all the features you would expect from a JW. Book your stay ahead of time since the place does fill up with conventions and coporate meetings. Starbucks on site. You'll need a car to get around.

We stayed for a week for our summer vacation. We were traveling with 5 children and grandma. This hotel was extremely family friendly. There is a huge lazy river that connects several pools (including a zero entry - great for babies) The pools don't get more than 4 ft deep or so, which is great for kids. There is a Starbucks in the Lobby, but also don't miss out on the Cafe Bodega for snacks and food items. You can request a fridge to be delivered to your room for no charge - this is great for stocking your own drinks, snacks, etc... Awesome kids activities such as making t shirts, pixie sticks, crafts, movie nights, etc... (Some have a charge $5-$10 each some are free.) Easy access to push around a stroller, etc... There are a few restaurants in hotel, and it is located fairly close to malls, etc... Overall this was a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend for families. Also - great fitness center which is shared with the Ritz next door - plenty of free weights, machines, and cardio equipment. They also offer classes such as yoga and spin for a charge.

We spent the weekend there and really enjoyed the pool and lazy river. The room we had was large and very nice with a view of the golf course and the pool area. The staff at the pool was so friendly and attentive, but I cannot say the same for the Citron Brasserie restaurant. They were really slow and my husband and son were half way through their dinners (from the buffet) before our waiter even got our drink order. The place wasn't crowded and there seemed to be a lot of staff so we may have gotten the lame one. We even had to chase him down for the check which was quite pricey, but that is to be expected with such a good location. Overall, I would stay here again if in the area.

JW is a great vacation retreat for the family! We go every year! It does get crowded on July 4th week but what isn't? Great pool, staff and overall great stay! Would recommend to any family! Love the lazy liver. The food at the pool is pretty yummy too!
