“Some staff need a new Disney 'chip' installed but overall good hotel.”
Reviewed 1 May 2012 via mobile

Just back from Disney Yacht Club. Nice hotel! Just returned from 10 days at this hotel and would observe the following: great pool, great setting, loved the faux beaches on the edge of the lake. DYC is 3 minutes walk from Epcot along a lovely boardwalk and 5 minute drive from the various parks. The rooms are a decent size even if the bathrooms are not. In fairness, the sinks and mirrors are separated from the loo and bath and taken together there is enough space but the loo and bath are inadequate for a 5 star hotel. Would be poor for a 3 star property. The bath in particular was tiny, old, shallow and short. Not good. They need to upgrade the bathrooms. Quite amazingly the cistern in our bathroom- an old ceramic model- exploded in bits flooding the bathroom and bedroom when leaned on to dry ones feet!! On closer inspection the cisterns 'float' on top of the loo and about 4 inches away from the wall so cannot take ANY stress. Beds were comfy though and housekeeping acceptable. They need to review a few customer service issues though. To begin with the check in was overly efficient, cold and delivered at such speed as to be unintelligible. Bordering on unfriendly if not quite. NOT a Disney experience. The 'checker-inners' at the restaurants were mainly grumpy and appeared to be doing you a favour. Once seated the service was attentive and much more Disney-like than the check in. The service at the pool was massively sporadic but very friendly when it appeared. Overall...we really liked the hotel! It was comfortable, reasonably classy, quite central, well situated with some excellent staff. But they must sort the service issues mentioned above as these were very un-Disney and lacked any Disney Magic. We would go back.

Had the chance to stay in this beautiful hotel just this April. Staff are so friendly - you could ask anything and they will have all the time to answer all your queries. Place is already an attraction on its own. You dont need to go anywhere else --- there are pools for kids and adults, different themed restaurants along boardwalk. Disney attractions are either bus or boat ride away.

Rooms are big and clean, has comfy beds. If you wish to go to Orlando downtown, taxis are just around to take you there.

Given the chance to go back to Orlando with my family, I will definitely stay here again in Disney Yacht Club!

We stayed in the Regatta Club for the last week of March. The staff, especially Betty and Shakira, were amazing! Warner from the front desk management was awesome!!! He helped us with several things and was able to get us moved to a great room!! We have stayed at the Grand Floridian sixteen times and on our last visit we did not get so much as an acknowledgement for returning. The Yacht Club is our new favorite and we already have a reservation for October.

Room Tip: The rooms at this hotel are generally quiet - there are definitely good and bad views but you can al...

Rooms are super clean; love the nautical theme. Great Habanero Lime Margaritas in Crews Pub. Easy walking distance to Epcot. Stayed here for a conference. The conference facilities, food superb. Upon arrival from airport via taxi, I was greeted by name as soon as I stepped out of the taxi. Thank you for the Disney/Mickey magic Lindsay!

The purpose of this trip was to attend the Disney Institute, to attend seminars detailing why so many people come back time and time again to Disney although it is agreed any Disney experience is expensive, and how to translate it to my business. The stay was worthwhile as was the seminar. The reason Disney does so well is because their dedication to the thousands of details behind the scenes that make the guests experience carefree and worry free. They have it down to a science. They concentrate on the aspects that 99.9% of guests don't notice but would if they didn't make them unnoticeable. Everything is "process mapped" right down to the chocolate on your pillow.

Given the reason for the stay, I went in challenging every aspect of the experience. After one day in seminar, I asked the folks out front in the evening "what is the quickest way to the Animal Kingdom?" They said "well, you can take the bus over there or we can call a taxi for you." Taxis are normally waiting, but there wasn't one there at the time. I said "can you get a helicopter?" They said "no" but then said actually they could but in the time it would take to get a helicopter, they could have a taxi having me on my way. Indeed, one rolled up. The point of my "near-jerk" test was to see their reaction. Total pleasantness and smiles. So, for the whole stay, I was trying to trip them up but wasn't able to even once!

The Yacht Club obviously has an upscale nautical theme and the property delivers on the "near luxury" front. (For luxury, my impression is that one must stay at the Grand Floridian.) The room was nice, well-appointed, and my hand towels were folded into a smiley face on the bed. Now this is Disney, massive scale - thousands of guests. Kind of like Vegas without the slots so the distances that one must walk, even in the hotel, are long. Exiting the elevator and getting to the room takes some time but that's the only complaint I can muster and even that's a wimpy one.

I knew my quest to find imperfections would be a challenging one when all throughout the property, there were "touch up" crews attending to every detail. Ever notice the little scrapes on the walls of corridors in most hotels - or on corner molding - from guest rolling bags and hitting the walls? Well, not here. The touch up crews were on task and every minute detail of every hallway, landing, and room was attended to.

Other than the convention food, which was the best I've ever had, I only ate one meal at a restaurant at the property. It was the "high-end" steakhouse, can't remember the name. Can remember that everything was exquisite as was the service. Of course.

While the rest of the world aims for excellence and settles for very good or good, Disney's mantra is to aim for perfection and settle for excellence. As a matter of fact, in our society today, extreme attention to detail is often dismissed as OCD or some other "bad" thing. I hope Disney never takes the pill for the cure. I have discovered how they get all 64,000 employees on the same page striving for a common goal. Impressive as is the Yacht Club. So, if you're prepared for the expense, and prepared for never noticing the thousands of details that are taken care of that you aren't supposed to notice, and not knowing why you are having such a good time but having one nonetheless, go to Disney. They are the experts.

I hadn't been to Disney for many years, since my children have grown older. This experience puts them back on the list. Not for the rides, but for the total abandon that a true vacation is supposed to provide. Plus, while I was there, I texted photos of different Disney sites to my wife and kids - apparently bringing up great memories - and they all texted back "Let's go there again." So it's unanimous and we'll probably stay at the Yacht Club. As I said, in spite of my best efforts, I couldn't find anything - really - wrong with it and it was an extremely enjoyable stay even though I was "working."

Room Tip: I think "garden view" (not garden level) are quieter than those on the front of the hotel.
