“Excellent Everglades Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2012

My friend and I recently participated on the half-day Everglades Tour with this company. Greg and Eric, the tour guides, were extremely professional and knowledgable! I learned a lot about the Everglades and had a great time doing it. The airboat ride was my favorite part, as well as being able to hold alligators too! Greg also was able to recommend to my friend and I different things to do while we were in Florida. We went on a cruise he said about which was beautiful. Also, we took his great advice and went to Corkscrew Regional Sanctuary which was also amazing too! I would definitely recommend doing any of the tours this company offers and if I'm ever back in the area, I will be sure to call Greg and set some other adventure up!

“Learned a lot and had a fun time too”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2011

Greg was a great tour operator. Yes, it's true that you could have booked the boat ride and alligator farm tour separately, but we simply enjoyed sitting back and having someone else show us around and teach us a great deal about the flora and fauna and history of the area. It was also nice because it was personal since we were the only people on the tour that day. Since we are nature enthusiasts, Greg also took the time to tell us about other local spots to check out and restaurants we may enjoy since we're vegan. Overall, Greg gave us an enjoyable, interesting, and personal experience of Southwest Florida.

“Awesome Adventure”

We found this tour on the internet and read the reviews on trip advisor. It was a fantastic experience. We met Greg and Erik at their designated pick up spot and drove into the Everglades to take a fantastic airboat ride with a local guide. We learned about the history and all about the environment. The boat ride into the Ten Thousand Islands was great especially seeing the dolphins swimming by the boat. The tour concluded with a fantastic lunch that had great food and service.

One thing that we really liked was that both Greg and Erik were Florida Master Naturalists. We highly recommend this tour for everyone.

“Great Everglades experience if you're short on time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2011

We booked the standard 7 hour tour with this outfit. Labor Day weekend was hot, sultry, and out-of-season, Greg and his son picked us up at our hotel in Naples in their ~12 seat van. We were the only customers. (They don't usually do hotel pickups.) We drove for 45 minutes down to close to Big Cypress for an airboat ride. Greg gave us a lot of interesting information about the local environment on the way down.

The airboat ride was operated by a 3rd party and involved other guests. Greg and son stayed behind. The ride was fun, but rather short. We saw a couple of gators and a lot of mangroves and sawgrass. After that, we visited a sad little gator/animal park run by the airboat operator, where we met an interesting and daring gator wrangler.

Then it was "back on the bus" for a short tour of Everglades City and a boat ride to the 10,000 Islands, again with other folks and with Greg and son staying behind. The boat ride was enjoyable, but there was not a huge amount of wildlife to be seen: roseate spoonbills, 2 bald eagles, and a few dolphins. The ride lasted about 1.5 hours.

Finally, we had lunch with Greg and his son at the Oyster Bar Cafe near the boat dock which offered alligator meat tidbits plus a range of sandwiches. This was all fine. Then it was back to Naples.

So, bottom line, the two boat rides could have been organized independently for considerably less cost. All the operators -- tour and boat and gator farm -- asked for tips rather ostentatiously, sometimes in multiple languages. The tour operator hyped some local restaurants rather too vigorously for my taste.

But all told, this tour offered a very decent overview of the area in a short time. "Southwest Florida Eco-Tours" really is offering you a guided bus-ride (with a fair amount of local knowledge) and a pointer to some competent boat/air-boat operations. And the rides might get over-booked in season if not part of a packaged tour.

So, if you can only spend a little while in the west-side of the Everglades, this tour might very well be right for you. Greg and his son are competent and knowledgable, but don't expect a private experience, or the full attention of the SW Florida Eco-Tours staff.
