“The Best Hotel on South Beach”
Reviewed 5 April 2012

Hotel was great! The staff was friendly and courteous, the room was neat and clean. The location was perfect! Within a stone throw away from the beach, from our room you can walk anywhere on South Beach. The continental breakfast was perfect and delicious. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone wanting to experience South Beach. The Bentley Hotel is perfect for families or a bunch of friends wanting to have fun! Like I said before the location of the hotel is perfect seeing as how it's right on the beach there isn't any traffic noise, so if you are looking for a place to stay on Miami's South Beach The Bentley Hotel is where it's at.

Like so many hotels in resort/vacation areas, my perspective of a property is highly dependent on the price we paid for the room. So basically at $200 a night (including the resort fee) I would rate this as a good value and a nice find. If I was paying $300 - $400 a night, I probably would have been less positive about our choice.

Let me state a couple of items of note. We booked directly through the hotel website and selected a junior suite (their base room.) These rooms are controlled by the hotel and not individual owners like the one bedroom suites. They are also the only rooms in the hotel with a king-size bed which is what we wanted. Upon arrival, they had upgraded us to a one bedroom but fortunately we were able to go back to our original reservation.

The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. The bed was comfortable with upscale linens. A few things in the room were showing their age and needed some maintenance, but I noted them at check-out and have every confidence that they will be repaired for the next guest. None were major enough to detract from our stay. I will however say that I don't think the guests should be the one's making the room repair reports. For example, how many times was the toilet paper roll replaced that someone didn't notice that the holder had come lose from the wall and needed repaired.

The internet was speedy and the in-room snacks and bar were well equipped, but we avoided the items and the premium prices. There are plenty of liquor and convenience stores within a few minutes walk.

The continental breakfast was pretty basic: coffee, juice, pastries, yogurt, cereal. They have a few tables on a pleasant balcony overlooking the ocean but not really enough room to accommodate more than a dozen guests at a time. To be honest, we grabbed a pastry and headed down the street to Starbuck's which is about three blocks away. The hotel coffee was like dishwater. It always baffles me as to why hotels haven't gotten it through their heads that people appreciate a good cup of coffee. It's a sign of quality.

The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but there is an Italian restaurant at the street level that offers a $4.50 all-inclusive breakfast special with a lot of choices. Not sure if they will deliver to the rooms. Their tables overlook the ocean as well.

The best value of this hotel is the courtesy relationship they have with the Bentley Hilton that allow for use of the Hilton's beach club. Two passes are included in the $25 resort fee which includes two chaise lounge chairs with terry cloth cover and a large umbrella. The club has drink and food service for reasonable prices. It was just a short stroll down the beach.

One last thing. I want to give a shout-out to Carlos at the front desk. He was professional, pleasant and attentive.

Room Tip: Odd number rooms overlook the courtyard and are quieter. The pool is on the fifth floor and it is n...

I am embarrassed to admit this, but it might help others. Somehow I accidentally booked here when I meant to book the Hilton "Bentley". So it was disappointing given what I expected. This hotel has no amenities at all, except there is a beach club that was great, but it was five blocks away. This location is extremely noisy; there were three different restaurants' music competing in the street. The hotel itself was also very noisy. We could hear every peep from the partiers returning throughout the night. I can't remember a more noisy hotel.
Note: Avoid Miami for Ultra Music Festival weekend unless you are coming for that alone. There was house music blasting from a club next to the beach all day, all three days.

Pluses:
Close to Prime 112
Beach Club staff friendly, never a shortage of beach chairs (except they had to close part of the beach early for a wedding)
Beach is *beautiful*
Hotel room was clean and overall comfortable.
Proximity to Washington St, where you can catch the $0.25 bus
Hotel staff responded effectively to a noisy party in the hotel at 2am

Minuses:
NOISE inside and outside
Grimy location above TGIFridays and two other restaurants
Pullout couch mattress was ridiculously old and uncomfortable. It felt like just lying on springs and a metal frame.
No workout facility
No bar or restaurant
Good to have a kitchen but it was poorly stocked,e.g., one bowl, one water glass, a few pieces of silverware, and no soap or dishwasher detergent to clean things in between uses
Tile floors are pretty but noisy from below and cold.

We just returned from The Bentley as part of our post cruise package and we failed to find anything "boutique" or special about it.Although at what seems to be the quieter end of Ocean Drive the street noise was dreadful even with the TV on and it never stopped until about 4am,7am the road works would begin so we had a noise issue.
The second issue was outside space, the hotel has no outside space as a restaurant occupies the entire ground floor, the beach club is 4 blocks away and the roof top pool area was host to an extremely loud pool party all day on the day we went up there, despite the fact that practically every guest complained about the volume of the music (and a few even threatened to check out) nothing was done about it,I can only assume the hotel was making more money out of the party than its hotel guests who were obviously very low on their list of priorities,we were checking out that day but other guests had only just checked in and were very unhappy,we were just glad to be leaving.
Third issue was resort fee,we have become used to this as frequent visitors to the states but you usually get something for the fee like bottled water or a free newspaper, here you get nothing and we couldnt even use the pool due to the noise during our 9 hours of having no room on our last day,no courtesy room provided of course after checkout at noon,we couldnt even use the rest rooms by the pool to get ready for our flight after some drunk had locked themselves in.
Fourth issue was cleanliness,on the face of it the room looks clean if but very dated and in need of referb but one night I dropped my lipstick, looked under the sofa,it was filthy, old food, crumbs everywhere, got me wondering so I looked other places, old bottle tops and chip wrappers under the bed,an inch of dust behind the tv in the bedroom.
Fifth issue for a self catering place it had 1 glass,2 plates and 1 bowl
Sixth issue staff, they would do what you asked reluctantly but the guy on the afternoon/ evening shift had a very short fuse!

Dear Chrissy,
Thank you for your review. The day with the party was a one time event, I apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused. I would however like to point out some notes in reference to some of your comments. While our location is extremely convenient due to its location in the heart of South Beach I do agree with you in that it can get a bit noisier on weekends, we do however offer rooms categories that face off Ocean Drive which are much quieter. As for the lack of outside space, while the hotel itself is limited since we are a boutique, right across the street is Lummus Park as well as the board walk running parallel to the beach. Furthermore, our resort fee includes many amenities, such as continental breakfast for 2, High Speed Internet Access, towels for the rooftop pool, and 2 lounge chairs and 1 umbrella at the Beach Club for each day with us. Finally, while we are unable to have a courtesy room due to our high occupancy year round, we do have a private bathroom for our guest lobby floor in addition to a storage facility for guest luggage. It seems we fell short on your experience though, we would love the opportunity to make this up to you. Please contact me at omartorell@meninhotels.com for a future stay.

Warm regards,
Oscar

The experience started with a 2 hour delay in checking in due to the fact that there had been a huge party in our penthouse suite the night prior. Housekeeping was having a difficult time. The reservation agent did apologize & reduced our rate slightly but still way too expensive compared to what you normally get in Florida for similar.
The area (art deco district) was not what we expected. Gap, Victoria Secrets, etc. doesn't seem to fit into 'arto deco' shopping category. The area is unclean (witnessed a woman urinating in the street), much profanity on the streets , etc.
To receive a bill for parking at $77 a night summed up an unhappy experience.
Will not return.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your recent review. It seems though your reasons for your "unhappy" stay are more related to outside factors than your actual hotel experience in which I would like to point out to our readers, furthermore, I would like to point out a small discrepancy in you bill as our nightly rate for valet is $30 per night and not $77. On a side note, I assure you Miami Beach and the Art Deco District has lots to offer and I hope an isolated incident wont fully taint what is otherwise a great place to visit with family and friends, above the shopping, bars and clubs that many are familiar with we have The New World Symphony just a few blocks away as well as many museums to engage our visitors. In the event that you do change your mind, I would love to be your personal contact for what to do and see, and of course where to stay.
