“Clevelander- South Beach FL”
Reviewed 26 September 2011

I stayed at the Clevelander for a week back in June and had a great time. This was my 3rd trip to South Beach in the last 4 years and the previous two times I had hung out at the Clevelander and thought it was the best party place along Ocean Dr, other more standard SoBe clubs are along Washington Ave, this time decided to stay here since I know we'll be here most nights anyway. The bars, inside and outside are going every night till 4 or 5am with loud music heard throughout the hotel, this was just fine for me but might not be what others want if looking for some peace and quite at night. If you're looking to party this is your hotel in South Beach, a fun place to start the night or hang out all night. It's on Ocean Dr so the beach is right across the street, the hotel provides beach towels at the front desk. They also have a pool in front but they have several outside bars built around the pool so it's more there for show and very few if anyone swims in it, at least from what I've seen. We had the standard room which had two queen beds and a couple of night stands, no tables or desk, fine for vacation but probably not so much if staying for business. The rooms are not huge but all of the older art deco hotels in SoBe have similar small rooms so can't really complain. Lots of good places to eat so I'll just mention my fav, Puerto Sagua, good Cuban food, not fancy but always busy and for good reason. David's cafe is also really good Cuban and it's just one block behind Clevelander, cafe con leche is really good there. I was actually in Miami for two weeks on this trip but the second week was spent at the Starlite only because we had several more to our party arrive the second week including children so that was based more on budget to get several rooms together and kids are not allowed at this hotel. Oh yeah, Clevelander gives you a frozen drink during check-in which is nice and they have really good reduced price drink and food specials during happy hour (not like the 2 for 1 happy hour scams at most of the other Ocean drive places).

We have just checked out of The Clevelander two nights early. Yes it's a party hotel and the pictures on the website look amazing, the services sound great but the hotel comes through with very little.

Firstly we were put into a room right next to the lift. We didn't mind the music which plays all night however the lift chimes really loud making it impossible to sleep (most hotels turn this off overnight). The people getting in and out of the lift are drunk and shout the whole time and the rooms are not soundproof at all and very small and basic. During the day the staff are very loud in the halls shouting to each other and screaming over the walkie talkies. So if you can't sleep at night or during the day when do you sleep or is this just a Miami thing ??

We asked if we could move to a quieter room which the hotel arranged. We asked when the pool was going to be opening and we were told it was just being cleaned. The pool has a stage over half of it so it's not as in the pictures on the website. A little later when we were having a drink at the bar (which is great) the barman told us that the pool was closed for the season and wouldn't be opening. We were told we could use the pool at the Essex hotel which has about 10 chairs around it and is the size of a big bath and shaded so no tanning opportunities.

On check in we were told to pick up the house phone from any of the sun decks to order drinks. We called to order drinks and were told that that service was only available on the weekend and we could order one round of drinks and had to go down to the bar if we wanted any more. What looks like pools on the sun deck on the website are about ankle deep ponds.

House rules of the hotel state that you are not allowed to bring any food or drink from outside the hotel into your room. I have never heard of this in a hotel.

We were offered $50 Cleveland cash as compensation however decided that we would move to another hotel which happened to be about half the price and had facilities far more superior.

We are by no means boring and love to party but the clevelander is a glorified frat pad. The staff are very polite and it's in a great location but it's not value for money and they don't follow through with what they offer.

Room Tip: No where near the lifts and maybe a non pool view as they play music till 5am.

The first person to impress us was the bellhop I believe his name was Jamal he was polite, professional and very friendly we encountered him a few more times during our 3 nights at the Clevelander and he was always exceeding our expectations. Next we met the front desk agent Ivana Johnson she was amazing so friendly and helpful I wish every time I checked into a hotel they had someone like her working there. She made our stay the best ever. We had a ocean front suite that was beautiful and the rock star suite that was equally great. Just beware the noise level from the DJ/bar area is going all night long. We were aware of it before so no problem. The entertainment on the weekends was so much fun we can't wait to return.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Clevelander for Labor Day weekend. When we first arrived at 3:00pm the party had already started. We were greeted with their signature pina coladas (Which were AMAZINGGG!) and their signature cup. We booked a pool view room with 2 double beds but they upgraded us to an oceanview with a king bed without even asking! The location of the hotel is perfect!

We were on the 5th floor, so you couldnt really see the ocean beyond the palm tree's but the view itself was still great. The room was pretty simple. Enough room for 2 people. All white with a hint of blue. People complained about the size of the room, but who goes toe SoBe to hangout in the room?! The bathroom's are pretty much see through. The sliding door is transparent. I could see my bf handle off of his business lol.

Hotel guests have access to the 2nd floor club where they throw parties on Saturdays, as well as the rooftop on the 4th floor and the 11th floor. During the day The rooftops have a great city and ocean view. They provide a bar and DJ. Never a dull moment!

Agreeing with past guest, the elevator was annoying. There was only one elevator so the wait time would sometimes be ridiculous. A lot of the times we just took the stairs. That is the only reason for the 4 stars.

All in all if you are looking for a party hotel I RECOMMEND THE CLEVELANDER!!!!
