If I had to choose a favorite cuisine, which is like choosing a favorite child, I’d have to go with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern. I’m sorry Mexican, Italian & Sushi, mommy still loves you! Byblos is housed in the Shorecrest Building on Collins with an eclectic decor that I’m now realizing I didn’t fully experience in the dark of my 9 pm dinner reservation.
Order a bunch of little plates to get a full range of flavors. My faves were by far the hamachi with jalapeño labneh, Spanish octopus with biber chili vinaigrette and preserved lemon and the absolutely melt-in-your-mouth black truffle flatbread with buffalo mozzarella and halloumi cheeses. But, the pièce de résistance my friends was far and away the rock shrimp rice. Please, when I go, bury me in a casket full of this rice. The grains were buttery and filled with spicy sujuk sausage, crispy chicken skin, scallions and green peas (for health?).
