“Best 5 star in Miami in the Ocean drive area”
Reviewed 4 July 2012

The Setai has got most all of what is needed for a great hotel: Great location, nice and large rooms, great service, good food and good ambience. The style is very much Asian. The rooms are mostly facing the street if you do not have a suite. The building is somewhat odd with a a classic tall Miami-style building in the back facing the sea and an old art deco building in the front blended with contemporary Asian interior much like the Peninsula in Bangkok. The style is really Asia meets Europe as traditional Asian hotels does not look like this. Not all architects will love this place though. Inside, and around the pools, the design is very consistent. The interior designer will get full score, but the architect not so as the integration of new and old is poor. I like the size of the hotel; it feels like a 5 star boutique and not a large and noisy 5 star Westin! The complimentary bikes are a treat! Staying at the Setai will put you right where the action is, but still a couple a blocks away from the noise!

The Setai is a perfectly good high-end hotel. My room in the older section was spacious, with a luxurious ambiance. The pool area and beach are both excellent - but this visit was in low season, and I could imagine things being somewhat busier and hence more crowded at other times.
Service was excellent throughout.
Downsides - noise from adjacent hotels sound systems during the day mean the pool area isn't as peaceful as it could be.

At the Setai, they get everything right, and it all comes down to superior service and location.

The rooms at the tower with ocean view, while extremely expensive, where very well appointed, a mini apartment, with in room laundry , small kitchen and separate bedroom and dining area and a terrace with city and ocean views.

The pools are tastefully done, and well attended.

The food was consistently excellent within the hotel, all except a below average tuna nicoise salad from the pool bar, which really wasn't what you would expect from the setai, but within the hotel all was excellent.

The staff is trained to attend to every need, and they make sure you feel welcome and taken care of from the moment you arrive till the moment you leave -

Room Tip: Rooms with an ocean view are in the tower and come at a very high premium.

I've stayed at several world-class resorts and although the hotel itself is nice, it is way too overpriced. For instance, A GLASS of house wine costs $20. That's right a glass of house wine. I stayed at a time when it was only 45% booked and I was given a room overlooking the street with no view, and this is even after they were informed that we were spending my mom's 77th birthday there. I stayed at Acqualina for about $250/night less and they upgraded my room to an unbelievable oceanfront one bedroom suite that cost over a thousand per night. A few nights it rained so we couldn't go out and there was no tv service. I don't understand why they don't have cable service (maybe because the satellite service is cheaper). I had to complain to the manager who argued with me that "no one else complained" and that this was the first time I was calling about this issue. Huh??! Anyway, if you have money to burn and don't care to spend triple what you should, then have fun.

Great architechture, great service. Enjoyed my time in Miama - much better than other more commericialised areas in the area - the ones I don't need to name. We really enjoyed it, never been to Miami before so can't compare it to other hotels, but we thought it was great.
