It was a shame that the staff were so unfriendly at this hotel, otherwise I would have given a higher rating. From check in to the time we checked out, we received very poor treatment, which can really make a difference when vacationing and paying top dollar for it.

The room was clean and spacious, and the tranquility adults only pool was a definite bonus. However there was dust and piles of garbage everywhere around the lobby! We were shocked. It was as if someone had swept but then never picked it up. Being allergic to dust, this was pretty disheartening.

Another thing we didn't realize (which was our mistake,) was how far the hotel is from all the action of South Beach. It's far, and we found we spent a lot of money cabbing back and forth between restaurants, bars, clubs and this hotel. It definitely added up, and we could have spent the money on a more centrally located locale.

If we could do it over again we would have stayed elsewhere...

The Miami Beach resort caught my attention because Virgin use it for their package holidays. I booked a two room suite indepedently for three days for me and my three teenage sons. The hotel itself has a very attractive lobby and corridors are smart and bright, but our room was very tired indeed with drab wooden fittings, cathode ray tube TV sets (all the rage before flatscreen became standard about two decades ago) and a truly nasty couch/pull-out bed that my eldest son had to suffer on. Another disadvantage is that the room had no fridge (there's a mini bar but it's packed with stuff) so you have to pay top dollar for your food from the hotel outlets- there are no alternative food outlets or supermarkets within easy walking distance. The plus point of the hotel is that the lobby and entrance are very striking and the pool area is great, leading out on to the perfect beach and fabulously clean, warm ocean. South Beach is a short cab ride or a nice (though long) walk up the beach. Don't forget to pack your leopard skin print thong. Hotels in this area are very expensive, $300 a night seems standard, plus the usual long list of taxes, and don't forget to add the tips. This hotel adds 18% charge to all meal bills for the tip, and every bill asks you how much you want to add to that. I can't understand why US hotels and restaurants don't simply pay their staff proper wages instead of giving customers a guilt trip over tips. Miami Beach resort is priced more reaonably than many other hotels in this area, the pool area and, especially, beach access and sea swimming are just perfect, but a room refurbishment programme is badly needed.

Room Tip: Our room (a one bedroom suite) was spacious but the fittings are pretty tired

Positives about this hotel:
swimming pool area is nice and big
the beach is right outside the hotel
spacious rooms
beautiful view from the room we had
free fruit skewers offered sometimes around the pool
free water from coolers around the pool area
the lobby area looked grand

Now, the negatives and why we won't return:
for the money that we paid (over $300/night), why can't they have bedsheets that cover the bed? (see photo attached) Please buy new bedsheets. They are not that expensive.
there were holes in the duvet cover. I've never seen such horrible bedding before; even lower end hotels have nice clean duvet covers and bedsheets.
the maid never changed our bedsheets (we stayed five nights)
the maid did not make the bed on one occasion; she just stuffed the sheets on the bed, covered it with the duvet to make it look like it was made. When we pulled the duvet over, we found the sheets and blankets all bunched up.
the room was not vacuumed. I know because I purposely left two small pieces of tissue in obvious places in the morning; when we got back in the evening, the tissue pieces were still there.
the staff at the breakfast cafe restaurant should learn how to smile. We were there on holidays, we were happy until we saw the grouchy faces in that restaurant, especially the hostess with the curly hair. I don't know whether it is because they were not paid enough or what, but we certainly paid a lot to stay there.
the room was old and run down. Don't look down when you use the washroom. The floor has cracks and dirt in the corners.
the toilet wouldn't flush properly. We had to call maintenance at least 4 times.
lots of ants around the locked in-room bar/snack mini fridge

p.s. all restaurants in the miami beach area add 15-20% tips to your food bills. It is very hard to remove the tips even though they say that they add it for your convenience. Try removing it when you get bad service, you will find that you have to wait an extra 15-20 minutes.

My family (5 adults and 3 children) stayed one night recently prior to a cruise. Although I had already paid for our 3 rooms in full, the desk clerk was going to charge my daughter an additional charge for her room if she could not produce the email showing the fee for the room and that it was paid. We showed him two of the three receipts and we had to go into my emails and forward it to him so she did not have to pay a higher room rate. What does "paid in full" mean? If you don't have proof you pay more? The hotel was ok although very crowded with a group. The restraurant was acceptable but they added $5.00 to one of our dinner checks. After pointing that out, it was removed. Due to the crowd, we waited 20 minutes for an elevator. The "parking valet" was very helpful in getting us a cab so we could make our cruise. The rooms were comfortable but did have almonds and french fries from a previous guest on the floor.
