We stayed there for 3 nights in April. Lovely, simple, no fuss room. The staff were pleasant, the location great...a few steps to the beach. The food at basement restaurant was excellent. A pool would be a great addition.
The breakfast is very basic, but great that there is coffee and tea throughtout the day!

We stayed here for 1 night after touring Florida for 2 weeks. I don't know if it was the shock of how busy Miami Beach was after a fairly quiet 2 weeks elswhere for the fact I just couldn't relax here. I booked for the location and for a hotel yards from the beach it's very convenient. The reviews about the decor etc appear a bit over rated to me. The place has no character, too much white paint mixed up with what looks like school childrens newspaper cuttings on the wall as 'art'. More style over substance. The shower head in my bathroom looked great, a big 'rain' type head. Looked nice yes, but dripped loudly all night so we put a couple of towels under it to catch the drips. The shelf in the bathroom is also too small to put any toiletries bag over 3 inches wide on. It all looks very nice but doesn't work in practice. Another example is putting the fridge in the wardrobe, very difficult to reach but keeps the room free of clutter and so looks nice.
There's a big roof terrace that's a nice place to be when the heat of the day has gone on the 5th floor, but beware if you're in a room on the 4th at weekends. It's accessed via a stairway from the 4th floor elevator so we had a string of drunks shouting loudly waiting for the elevator until gone 1 am. The hotel is more suited to party couples and singles rather than families. It was a bonus that the checkout time was 1200, that extra hour made a difference with a late afternoon flight. It was not worth what I paid and I would not stay again. That said Miami Beach in general will not be getting my custom again, too brash, too many people thinking they're Gods gift to whatever craze they happen to be into and overpriced. Great if you want the bright lights and bars/clubs, avoid if you want to relax.

Room Tip: Avoid the 4th floor, the roof terrace on the 5th is accesed via the 4th floor elevator. At weekend...

I crashed a few nights here and there over the last fall and winter whenever I managed to snag a promo/good rate.

this hotel bills itself as an affordable beach "crashpad" for the young and hip. If you can get a rate of $150-200 or under than it's totally worth it, more and you are better off going elsewhere.

CONS
the hotel is 11 years old now (opened in 2000) and showing it's age. The all white walls surely are painted often, but everything else is kinda scuffed and seriously - why carpet? why???

Wi-Fi is free, however in the guestrooms it is VERY weak. Lobby signal is strong.

Beds are kinda lumpy and uncomfortable, bedding is clean and nice, however the mattresses probably have long ago hit their expiry date.

NOISE!!!!! the hotel is not very soundproof. Light sleepers beware that maids start in the hallways at 8am and neighbouring guests are often partying (and sexing) in their rooms until 2-3am and you can hear EVERYTHING! If you, like me, can sleep thru anything, than no worries... ;-) add to that there is a nightclub in the adjacent building on the Collins St. side.

PROS
the location at 20th and Collins. quick walk to the beach, also a 5min walk to Lincoln Road. Ocean Drive is about 15 mins.

breakfast is included. Granted it's a meager affair with baguette, muffins, hard boiled eggs and terrible coffee, but if you are too hung over to face the morning sun, this is very convenient and they take it into account that people here sleep in so it's available until 12pm!

Bond St. Lounge is in the basement of the hotel. normally hotel restaurants are nothing to get excited about, however the sushi (and other food) is very good here surprise surprise.

Bikes for rent!

Service is very friendly and efficient. (rare in South Beach).

p.s. I hope the owners are planning a refresh soon - this baby needs it!

Room Tip: facing AWAY from Collins Street.

I'm not sure if it was exactly worth the money they asked for weekend rates, but it was not a bad place to stay. The complimentary breakfast is a very nice touch (which I enjoyed on the beach each morning!). You won't find that at the more expensive hotels in the area. If you're looking for impeccable surroundings, bellmen following you around everywhere, or monogramed robes in your bathroom, then you'd best check into the Setai across the street. However, if you're looking for a clean place to stay that is next to the beach and within a short walk to the Convention Center and Lincoln Road Mall, this is the perfect place to stay!

I thought the staff were friendly and they were attentive when I needed it. My room reeked of cigarette smoke (I could swear I requested a non-smoking room). A can of Febreeze took care of that problem. The rug could have used some cleaning. My room was next to the door up to the Rooftop Lounge, so Friday night I was woken up a couple of times by the drunks coming down at 2 a.m. There was also a mystery noise that would go off a couple times a night. But since I was not in the room before 1 a.m., it didn't keep me up.

Overall, being a single woman traveling to the area, I felt safe and comfortable in my surroundings. If you keep your expectations at a reasonable level, you'll be happy. I'd recommend it and plan to stay there again the next time I visit South Beach.
